Upon browsing the internet, I saw this PTC website which is for sale and there is a minimum bid on it.I was wondering why the owner of that website wants to sell his website since I don't see any complaints about this sites. So I am just too curious about this,if selling your website is a good way to get big profit because I dont think of any possible reason to sell a well stablished website like this one.I want to know it's pros and cons as well. Thanks!

This can't be answered without knowing how much are you getting paid for the sale, the revenue the website is generating, your website revenue trends, your need for cash, etc.

Can you tell me if selling my car is a good idea without knowing at least my car year, model, condition and how much i'm going to get paid?

Selling your wesbsite is not a bad idea, you can make money selling your website, if you really dont need your website anymore you can decide to sell it. But if the site is still useful to you then i advice you should not sell it.

I think most people sell their website once its starting to go down hill or if they made it for a quick profit. Because no one in their right mind is going to see something that has a steady income. Lets throw out some numbers, say your website makes $50 a week and you sell it for $1000. Why would you not just keep it and have a steady income and your going to make that 1k in 10 months and you will make another $1k in another 10 months. VS make a quick $1k and nothing else from then on.

Well it depends on the purpose of the website programmer. If you want to earn from the website you can either sell it or invest for it. You can use your own website in your own business like selling some products. But if your purpose is really selling websites for those who are in need, it is a good choice to sell it It deals a great amount of money and for sure you will harvest all your efforts after selling it.

Depending on the feautures of your website and the preference of the consumer. Why don't just make that website income generator anyway? There's alot you can do with it as a way of passive income.

If you going to get the more money then you can think on the sale of your website. But only if you are closing your business and shut-down your website. In such case, someone can buy your website if he is interested in same type of business. Without much efforts, if he is getting the ready website with it's current rank on Google then definitely he will purchase it.

While selling the website, you will need to consider factors as below -

1. Reputation/ Rank of website on internet
2. How old it is?
3. The total cost required to develop your website
4. Domain and hosting service cost
5. Your profit

Hope this will help you. :)

I think selling your website is not bad if you have an another source of income that can produce bigger money than your website. If you want to focus thing that you has already proven that can give you bigger money and can give you longer source of income, then sell your website. But if you dont have that one, I advise you, dont sell it.

This is very common. Some people make a business out of "flipping" websites. Just because someone wants to sell their seemingly well established and profitable website doesn't mean it's a scam. Of course it's up to the buyer to perform due dillegence as with all online transactions.

If you need the money badly? I guess it's a good idea. A few things to keep in mind though.

1.) If this site is 'your baby', and you hate parting with it. Then I'd instead try and sell a site that you lord over just to accrue value. Many internet professionals have sites they really put their heart and soul into. Other sites they oversee are just 'investments.' Their purpose is to grow in value until they're ready to be cashed in.

2.) What can you get for it? Is the amount of money this site would sell for worth it? Or are you looking for a specific return financially? If you're getting or afraid you will get low ball offers at the moment. Best to sell it later on when you might get the price you want.

Website flipping is a good business provided you can find customers for your website. I have couple of websites which I primarily launched for the purpose of flipping them. I am trying to sell these websites for the past one year and they are still unsold. The owner of this particular website decided to sell it because he could make more money by selling the website than from the revenue generated from the website. If he has talent, he can easily sep up another succesful website.

I think it makes sense to create a website and sell it for a huge profit, once you've increased its value. This is pure business sense. In our daily lives, we see people selling their profitable businesses every day. If you started our website for $ 100 dollars and you can sell it for 1 million dollars. You would be mad to refuse that offer. Especially because you don't know what will happen tomorrow. The economic climate might change and your business might not do as well. By selling it, you walk away with your profit and less stress.

Yes, I agree. If selling a website will make you rich, do it. Anyway, you can still make websites as many as you can and sell it. There is no limit nor law that prohibits of creating multiple websites. This one of a kind. It is very rare because not all people have the skills to do such kind of a business.

The way I see it, selling a website raises many questions. I am looking at this from the potential buyer's viewpoint.

First, why does the owner want to sell the website?

If the website is functioning and making money, it does seem strange that the owner would want to part with it. Alright, maybe the owner is getting bored and wants to do something different. Or, the owner is getting old and wants to retire with a lump sum of cash. I don't really know. Can you imagine that, say, Mark, when he gets old and tired of running a business, would sell Facebook?

Two, if the website is not functioning and not making money, why buy it? For the domain name? Well, from what I can remember, at one time, the record price for a domain name was the amount paid for sex dot com. Now, does anyone know what happened to that domain name or any website with that domain name? I have seen some forums being bought and merged. So far, I have not heard of any good news about such activities yet.

Now, don't let me discourage you from selling your website, or buying one. Just be careful. Cyberspace is full of black holes, waiting for the unwary.

When I was new to this whole webmaster business, I bought couple of turnkey websites. I was attracted towards turnkey websites because I could get content loaded ready to monetized website. All I had to do is give them access to my domain. Apart from turnkey websites, I have never bought a well established website. However, I am thinking to sell a clouple of websites. If are good at developing website, you can easily make another website and sell it or use it yourself. There is profits to be made for the seller. For a buyer, it is also a good idea to buy a website that is already earning money.

I agree with you.People has a choice to sell their website regardless of the reason. Some are selling their website because they want to make money on it.Others are selling because they don't need it anymore. The good thing is that they can always make website anytime they want and sell it later on.This people are genius because not all has this skill to make website. They can become millionaire if big companies will buy their website in a reasonable price.

Personally, your site is worth as much as someone is willing to give you for it. Simple answer really. I know, that doesn't help when you go out advertising a site for sale and everyone is asking how much you want for it and you don't know what to say. You don't want to undercut yourself especially after years of hard work, but then again, you are selling a website virtual property it just seems a little bit strange doesn't it.
