importance of photoshop in website design process?

We have so many open source image editing software tools and we have
many tools from adobe only like illustrator, indesign, , light room, and many but they
Can't replace the position of photoshop.
In my experience I can say it is because of some most useful options like
move, marquee, lasso, pen, draw, scene modes, gradients, and filters effects.

I think that slice tool is best tool in photoshop for web designers to slice images into slices and style for their websites. In other words, photoshop is too popular for webmasters, web designers to create web images easily so that it's not easy to replace with other tools.

I've got two words for you REFINE EDGE. By far one the most useful tools in Photoshop.

Fireworks is a great tool for graphic to web applications. discontinued after CS6.

In website design photoshop plays an important role, it is mainly used for logos, banner creation. Photoshop is also used for creating web layouts, it is used as a mockup of real sight.
