Can I build a whois lookup website?

I want to build a whois lookup website which allows me to check whois domain name or hosting like whois .com or domaintools .com...etc
Is that possible? can you guys give me any suggestions?

Well.....
If they, whois.com and domaintools.com or any toher wois service can.... mean its possible, then why you don't?
You can use existing scripts for that or just code your own.
My suggestion is to make a script that can identify the domain provider whois server and then make the query to that server so you can show accurate and updated results.

Give broad options like DNS records check along with the domain whois because its alone may be useful for you but may not invite others attention. May be add something like "Domain Regitrstation Status" checker and display it...helpful for non-techie users who have difficulty to read and understand whois info.

I prefer building my own script on my website

It will handle requests on my server or pinging to other whois sites and get results from there?
