Cloud hosting is growing, but not as well as people think.
a lot of people jumped on the "Cloud Hosting" bandwagon, only to be disappointed. Cloud hosting can come at a high price, and still give poor results. Plus there are a lot of providers that use the "Cloud" name as a marketing gimmick when really it is only traditional hosting. This has caused a lot of consumers to stay away from "Cloud" hosting.
The same goes for VPS & Dedicated servers. I have seen dedicated servers being sold for as low as $20/month. That price, even (especially) on a older model server will not even pay for the power & bandwidth it consumes or the cooling power it takes to keep it cool. Providers that offer services at the low rates do not stay in business very long, or if they do, that typically provide poor support and/or uptime.
Most business people know that "You get what you pay for". If you want a cheap price, your likely to get a cheap service!
For instance, we have never tried to be competitive on price. Our servers cost more then many providers (but still less then some), but we spend a lot of money on competent support staff, redundant systems, and a optimized collapsible core network.
Often times, a Shared/reseller plan from a quality provider, is still far better then a VPS or dedicated from a cheap provider!!
Keep in mind also, the majority of the population does not need, want, or know what to do with a VPS/Dedicated. Although they can give you more resources, they are more difficult to manage. Shared & Reseller plans are still more popular then anything else!
