There are three main ways you can make money from blogs, particularly, you could sell your digital products or advertising with a blog, but some people are using it for ranking their websites. It might surprise you but it's true. Is your blog helping you improve your business or just SEO rankings?

That depends what kind of blog do you want to write? What are your strongest skills? As an individual, if you are trying to serve a dedicated niche audience, blogging may be a good way to make money. For a company, a blog may help make money indirectly. Our company (CoinTent) blog serves as a way for us to direct traffic to our main website, as well as engage with our user base and build our brand by fostering discussion on the state of our industry.

Either way make sure your writing serves a purpose for the reader. There is a lot of content available on the internet, a good blogger finds what's missing and writes about that.

Like Kendra said, depends on if you like to write. Or if you can write.

Blogging can be very time consuming if done right. The writing is the easier part. Promotion and networking is what really takes the time.

Don't think I'd want it to be my main business.

And as bad as this sounds, blogging is usually better suited for women. I don't mean that in a bad way, just that they are usually more "talkers" than men. They are usually better at commenting.

Oooooh, and just when I started to like you Ron, LOL. I am such a talker
it's not even funny. I could probably out-talk any girl out there. I guess
that makes me the exception to the rule, eh Ron? LOL.

I don't think that would surprise many people. Blogs have long been known as a way to drive traffic to your website thus helping it's rankings. Not helping it's rankings for just having a blog, but from people becoming aware of your site and visiting it more, spending more time on your site and helping it's bounce rate, increasing it's visibility through it's blog articles and some other ways.

Is your blog helping you improve your business or just SEO rankings?
On my sites they are helping to improve business on my sites by drawing more people to the sites. Getting the people to your site is a key to success.

I personally love niche blogging, but I know people that would rather do things like ghostwriting or publish stuff on Kindle. Heck, I know some people who make a lot of their money from selling PLR. I guess it just depends on what you're into (took me a while to figure this out). Now that I think about it, I've never created a blog for my website. My blogs have always been my websites -- if that makes sense. Nowadays, people use the words interchangeably, even though they aren't technically the same thing.

It's a way. I wouldn't call it the best. The fact is you can blog for months or yeas and not make a cent. It depends a lot on your niche, how you intend to monetize, etc.

That said, I think having a blog is essential for a good marketer. A blog can be a marketer's home on the web - a place where he can talk about his products and showcase his skills and establish himself as an authority in his niche.

Blogs are the best way to make money online. PERIOD!

Your Blog, is your Home Online.

It is your Store Online.

It is the "Virtual Building" of your Business Online.

Just think about this for a second; your blog online is just like your own Store - and it is open 24/7, people can come by, learn something, look around, click on things, and possibly buy!

It is definitely a lot cheaper to run - than an actual Store in a shopping center, that is open 24/7!! hahaha

You can have your blog found by thousands of people through the search engines. And you know that Search Engine Traffic is the most targeted traffic there is!

You can add up the rankings and the daily organic traffic - and soon you will have a lot of traffic coming to your blog on autopilot. This will allow you to generate leads and sales while you sleep :D .. and this is what we call Passive/Residual Income Online!

So yeah, Blog ARE the best way to make money online. It is a REAL Business!

I'm assuming his intention was that of where your offline building is a physical "brick and mortar" building, your website (or blog) would be your "virtual location". Again, I am assuming this is what was intended, but, we all know what "assuming" gets you, right? LOL.

I use mine for everything from getting my products out there to sharing traffic tips with my visitors. It allows you to have landing pages, download pages. You can setup special site ares and membership sites depending on the platform you use.

When I switched to my platform years ago I never turned back to non php hosting sites.

But yes it can be your home & business on the internet and make you money.

A blog is only as worth as much as its making if that makes sense?

Let me elaborate. If you have a blog that is ranking high for something that is a high ticket item. Lets call it Lamborghini car parts.

Well then you can sell Lamborghini car parts on that blog by blogging about Lamborghini car parts and linking to sources where they can be purchased.

Also if you're getting a lot of organic traffic to that blog or even referral traffic from other sources, well then you can capture subscribers and then email them offers for the latest Lamborghini car parts.

That's another revenue source right there.

And finally, you can place ads on the site either Google Adsense ads (which could be the best option) or with another advertiser in the Lamborghini car parts industry who might pay you for that.

Oh you can also sell links on your blog to other Lamborghini car part blogs or sites that are about Lamborghini cars.

If you have a blog that sells lampshades and lightbulbs that sell at dirt cheap prices you're going to need a lot more traffic to make any real decent money.

So its all about choosing a product to "blog about" that earns you good commission per each item sold through you.

Say you blog about a Lamborghini bonnet which could sell for around $10,000 alone. Your commission from that could be around 10% so that's $1000 from 1 sale.

Where as if you sell a lampshade for $12 and only earn 10% commission from it you'll only earn $1.20c.

You'll need to make a lot of them to earn good money!

A blog is just a platform. It's not different really to having a web 2.0 site when it comes to being a platform but it's not the best way to make money online. If you're blog has not traffic then you'll not make a penny with it. To make money online you need:

  • Traffic
  • A platform
  • An offer

The traffic needs to be targeted to your offer and if it cold traffic then you better have some form of marketing funnel in place to get as much of that traffic as possible on to your opt-in list (or similar)

The platform can be anything although it is often best if this is something you have control over, such as your own site

The offer is what will make you the money. It's needs the other two parts but without the offer parts one and two are pointless.
