layer ddos attacks

I have read this "DDoS attacks mainly exploit three of these layers: network (layer 3), transport (layer 4), and application (layer 7)", why don't have layer 2 or 5 or layer 6? if no, what is the difference between layer 3 , layer 4 and layer 7?
