Hello

I'm a Christian aspiring writer and artist from Eastern-Europe. I make videos on YouTube and I used to run an online forum (kind of like this one), but I closed it down because it was getting expensive. I decided to join this community and meet new people. I hope you are a friendly bunch. I like the design, and it seems like an active place.

See you around.

Hello @Lucian Hodoboc! Welcome to ForumWeb!

I agree with you there, online forums can get pretty pricey and can be sad when you have to give it up :(

May I ask what your YouTube videos are about?

Also, see you around :)

Thanks for the welcome @Malcolmjr96 . I've taken a break from YouTube due to health and financial problems. I used to make comedy videos and vlogs, but I haven't uploaded anything in almost a year. Life has been pretty hectic lately, y'know? o_O Maybe I'll get back to it sometimes in the future.

What about you? Do you own a forum?

No problem! Oh I'm sorry to hear, I apologize if I stepped too much into your personal life. Well take your time, lemme know when you release a video, I'd be more than happy to check it out. My life before I got my job was pretty hectic too, all I was doing was gaming until like 6am in the morning, sleeping all day then gaming all night. It eventually took a toll on me, but when I got a job it kind of made my life a little brighter. Just keep focusing on your dreams, you'll get there! Show some positivity in yourself :)

I currently own a forum too, it's open but not too the public as of right now. I'm mainly using it for my developments, I originally was going to open it up as a development forum. But who knows maybe I'll turn it into something again.

Why you closed it? can you share your story?

I am planning to create a new forum and I would like to hear your experience to avoid bad things happen to it.

Well, I ran a general discussions community using InvisionPower (recently known as InvisionCommunity). The software license required two yearly payments to have access to updates and plugins.

Once the community began growing in size, it needed a larger hosting account and a decent amount of resources (extra CPU power, bandwidth etc.), which couldn't be covered by donations and ads, so I had to pay everything (hosting, domain and software license) out of my pocket.

Add to that the fact that I made a bunch of enemies online and had my website hacked and DDoSed a few times, and you can see that at one point I just decided to close it down (at least temporarily) because it had become too expensive for my budget.

Besides that, I have a bunch of personal problems to deal with and I can't focus on taking care of a forum at this time.

What about your project? What type of forum do you want to launch? What niche and what software do you have in mind?

Which can handle with an upgrade and you should go with some cheap web hosting providers but high quality, there are more recommendations on this forum, you can find more threads related to this.

DDOs or hackers related to how you will secure your website/forums, that is why you should join a Forumweb like this to learn experience from others.
Besides that, I have a bunch of personal problems to deal with and I can't focus on taking care of a forum at this time.
That's time you should build a good team or Mods to support you manage your forum. You can not manage a big forum if that's just you.

I am planning a funny site with forums in it for members to discuss and a smartphone forum for mobile users but I am still analyzing if they have more profits to start with or not.

Welcome to the community, @Christian!

but I closed it down because it was getting expensive.
It is why more people went with forums for their hobby but closed them down because could not maintain them, if you want to build a forum for your hobby, let consider if your forum can bring benefits or money to you or not.

It is more benefits. I am just curious why you closed it and why don't you combine both to grow them
