CentOS 6 vs 7, Which is better?

I am using CentOS 6 all the time and have not got an opportunity to use CentOS 7, what is the difference between CentOS 6 vs 7, which one is better when starting a new VPS and for isntall hosting panels?

CentOS 7 is newer, will be maintained for longer period of time so for new VPS i would suggest going with CentOS 7.

as @hostens said, it's newer and (should be) better, although i think centos 6 is still supported until a couple of years from now.

CentOS 7 for newer kernel and improvements and less neglected by upstream Redhat for timeliness of yum updates compared to Redhat 6/CentOS 6.

I will keep this advice in mind but still using centos 6 on a VPS.

I don't know why you don't like systemd, I tried centos 7 but seem it is not for me, very hard to use, its commands are different from Centos 6 while I was familiar with centos 6 for months.

It has better performance if I move to Centos7?
or it is just small improvements.

Personally i prefer Centos 7 again as mentioned better improvements and fixes, though most are aware that with any new versions of any OS there will need to be improvements to the software we use so when upgrading make sure that all your software you use works with the most current Kernel / OS version.

its all about swings and roundabouts - new versions better improvements vs functions and features from the software we use that are not fully updated to support the latest OS releases. a good chance to wait until software you use is fully support before the official upgrade on any live system

system is init system , they change inetd, cron, WatchDog, chroot, mount and fstab.

Centos 7 it's new software, Centos 6 stopped full updates 10 May 2017 , so try install centos 7 in virtual for example KVM and use time-to time, then reinstall your Centos 6 to Centos 7 . You can also upgrade from Centos 6 to 7 , but I recommended reinstall. (do backup before any change)

I would stick to Centos 6 than go for the upgrade to Centos 7.
Centos 6 has been stable so far so there's not a need to upgrade yet. I

I have heard that many people have opted to revert back to Centos 6 as there's a lot of command changes.
However, it's a matter of time before Centos 7 will be stable so get ready to familiarize with systemd.

When you want the more latest version, go with CentOS 7. However, I had issues with the new thing systemd. Its pretty hard to adjust into it from the way I used to easily with CentOS 6. However, my decision is 50-50. 50% because CentOS 6 is still supported and way more user friendly and easier to use. I am still using CentOS 6 but due to fast paced generation. We should start adjusting and familiarize ourselves with CentOS 7 systemd soon.

End of the day both work well, it really depends upon your requirements and if you care that updates for CentOS 6 end by 2020. Keep in mind that CentOS 7 is a newer OS and also has additional security features.

CentOS 6 will be available forever however updates and support will stop in 2020.

My company will use 6 for shared and resellers plans until cPanel no longer supports it and I'm forced to upgrade to 7.

I prefer Centos 6 to Centos 7 because of systemd as someone has pointed out above already. 6 is more stable and I don't like new install process and new commands (systemctl).
