My current web host is being bought out. Not sure I like the company that bought them out.

Can anyone recommend a VPS web host that...

- Is based in the US
- Has US support
- Has phone support
- Has really smart support staff
- Reasonable price
- Great on security
- Offers solutions to allow me to scale my business

What specs do you need, I might be able to point you in the correct direction as far as host that I've used in the past years.

The requirements above are as important as tech specs.

I am an IT guy, but not a web hosting or server guy, so I need the managed support aspect. Then again, I am a startup with limited funds, so paying a Rackspace $1,000/month isn't an option now.

With my current web host, I think I have a Linux VPS with 2.5 GB RAM, maybe 100 GB SSD.

Hope that answers your question.

There are not many managed VPS providers out there that actually give proactive and reactive management that's inexpensive expensive. What is your budget have you looked into knownhost?

But they are a unmanaged provider, so if your support needs are not a power or network issue, they won't be any help.

O yea that is true so they won't help with much.

I mean it would be easier to help if we knew what was going on with the server. It really depends on what type of support your going to be needing reactive, proactive, hands on there is so much support that can be handed down and every provider provides different things.

Can you break down exactly what type of support your going to be needing and for what cause. Most providers don't offer phone support just ticket support which most of the time is pretty fast and is much better than phone support because you don't need to go through all the account verification's and stuff of that nature but that just my opinion.

I am not a System Admin of Web Host guru.

What I liked about WiredTree is that they were there on the phone IF I needed to call to talk about issues. They also actively managed and patched the server so I didn't have to worry about any of that.

I usually used the ticketing system, but it was nice to know I could call at any time if I needed to.

WiredTree also had a handful of managers who were very smart and knew more than me so I had the piece of mind of having experts looking out for me.

That is what I'd like.

Liquid Web has the 24/7 phone support, and friendly people, but I question the experience and competency.

I sense a lot of Millenials there.

I'd rather have a couple of old Hippies, or at least seasoned techs in their 30s who know their shit and can make sure I don't hang myself with poor decisions on my VPS.

Also want someone who can help me grow into a dedicated server and more.

Probably a tall order...

I have always suggested anyone looking for a host to contact a company they are interested in. First by chat, then by email etc. Ask questions of their sales team. To me that is the first impression of how responsive they are going to be.

I think your biggest challenge will be finding a quality provider that offers phone support.

There simply are not many left as phone support is expensive, and often times is not a great way to provide hosting support.

Simple things like password resets can be provided via phone support. However when you get into more complex issues, being on the phone with the tech will often times slow them down, rather then speeding up the resolution.

There are plenty if phone support is not a must for the reasons @RDO-Servers mentioned!

Good luck.
