There is no limit on the number of plugins you may have installed, although it should be consistent with the choice as more number of plugins, slow and insecure will be your site. Therefore it should have only the plugins you really need and which generate an essential functionality to your WordPress installation.

I would suggest some of the plugins that are essential for me and that are present in all web sites that I make or keep:

Akismet: This is a plugin developed by Automattic , the company behind WordPress, therefore very reliable and recommended. Fighting spam that comes to your site and keep it protected at all times. This will avoid having to be constantly watching you do not write unwanted comments. So you can watch your list of SPAM and keep it current.

Google XML Sitemaps: This plugin will generate a sitemap or site map in XML format that will help search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask.com to better index your website. With this sitemap, it's much easier for crawlers and search engines see the complete structure of your site and retrieve information more efficiently.

WP-DBManager: Enables easy backup of tables WordPress database. You can also backup other tables in the same database (the heart of WordPress), optimize tables residues debug and schedule backups to be made alone.

WordPress SEO: The best plugin that currently exists in WordPress to optimize the positioning of your website in search engines. Amenities include a multitude of options to improve your position in the search rankings and you make up your web rankings in the major search engines.

BulletProof Security: A few plugins I've found myself as complete as this one. With this superb piece of software you can shield your WordPress security issues. Protects important files from your installation and gets very difficult things any potential attacker who wants to "knock down" your website. Highly recommended. Very necessary.

Of course there are many more important and essential plugins, and depending on the person administering the system, can be more or less essential. This is just a brief list of what I think should be and can never miss out.

What are your wordpress plugins you are using on your blog? does it help in growing your blog???

Personally I prefer all in one SEO, and if your blog is visible in the EU, which most are, you need an implied cookie consent plugin.

I also would use Wordfence which is another security plugin. Problem with Akismet is that you cannot use it on commercial sites without contravening their terms and conditions.

As to using blogger, why would you want your blog on somebody's server where it can be deleted anytime. Also worth noting that many parental controls block every .blogspot.com page because it includes the term "gspot" within it. (you have to be careful. One of my sites was being restricted because I refered to something at the "bottom of the page"! Had to change it to the "foot of the page")

Very useful write-up for the beginners who wants to design a search engine friendly WordPress website. But in my experience i have observed that, we don't need any plugins as they are easy way to hackers to hack our website. I have uninstalled all the plugins and done organic S E O, it is getting good result.

I love all of these lists...but in the end, the All in One SEO is very powerful along with everything else. Good stuff in this thread!

For SEO I like to use All in one SEO and Yoast SEO.
I also wrote an article about wordpress security plugins that any blogger should install in their blog if anyone wants to read and give more opinions about it.

Personally I only consider WordFence an "essential" plugin for any of my Wordpress websites. That's because the security of your wordpress website is the most important aspect that a plugin can help to improve.

After that then there are various different Wordpress plugins that I use and it really depends on each type of website to determine which others I use.
