Guys,
If someone offers their email so they can download something or gain access to the next pages or whatever, is that technically considered as 'opting in'?
I'm not sure about that, just asking for opinion

Elcidofaguy is the one who's first language is English so he should be able to answer this question better.

But to opt-in is to choose to participate in something. So yes you're right, if someone chooses to give you their email to gain access to your offer they've opted in...

I suck in English but hope that helps :)

Indeed I fully agree with the above... Both Nesito29 and Nytshade answers are really good and well explained...It gets 10 out of 10 had an English teacher marked your home work ;-)) Opt-in is the act of providing an email /signing up to a newsletter...

As well as being considered to be opted-in/opting-in you can also regard that as a conversion which is a broader encompassing concept... A conversion is a goal you set with achieving an action from your web visitor... That can be sales, signing up to an email list, social media share, filling out a survey, clicking on a button etc....

If someone enters their email on your opt-in form, in exchange for your incentive product, which can be anything from a paid product, free report, video, webinar etc, then they are opting-in to your email list.
