Hi, I am currently building a site base on WP from an advice by my friend, he suggested me I should stick to Wordpress. Is it much simpler, simple and more flexible on plugins, themes and widgets. However I still have weeks, possibly months left to fix all the details on my new site because I'm still new to wp. what about your site, do you just use wordpress?

Wordpress is one of the most used platform, as it has lot of customization option with themes and plugins. Easy to use interface allows adding new pages in an easier way.

WordPress is insanely popular for sure. I don't use it, as I actually find it more complicated than coding the website myself.

Hi, we are web designer & developer, to be honest, yes WordPress is a most popular & great demand even for E-commerce website nowadays by most of my worldwide clients, another reason for WordPress as it take low cost for development compare to other CMS, but if you ask me, yes WordPress is always a good option, but depends on your requirements you can also go for magento (specialist for e-commerce, project cost will be high), & I will not suggest other CMS are bad such as joomla, drupal, etc. it depends on website requirements.

WordPress has become popular due to it's ease of use. One thing many overlook...security. As easy as it is to use, just as easy to be attacked and exploited.

Before doing any work, add the WordFence plugin to your website, and disable the Live View option. This will protect from most known type of attacks.

If you plan on buying a theme, look for one on Themeforest. It's a common place to buy most themes, BUT do look over the comments before purchase. See if anyone has common issues, and most importantly, look at how frequesntly the designer responds to issue, and how frequently the theme is updated.

Those two steps will help get you in the right direction of preventing issues.

I do this on all my Wordpress websites but I do it to free up the wasted resources that the live traffic view uses. I was given this tip by WordFence support a couple years ago when I was having high resource usage issues. Switching off the live traffic view fixed it.

I agree with your friend. The only simpler way to create a site is with a DIY sitebuilder. That would be faster and easier, but a WP site will end up more to your liking. One thing you might consider is to use a sitebuilder now, get something decent up and running quickly and then spend a few weeks on a WP site.

where is easy to be attacked and exploited? on plugin, themes or wordpress files?

I bought themes at themeforest, it works as well but pretty expensive and some themes are weight and very hard to load.

A little of everything, but usually less within the core file if they're kept up to date. Themes and plugins tend to be where security holes are found. Some designers will can be lazy and code things that either slow things down...conflict with other plugins...or put in codes that allow people to exploit.

When you're in the WordFence options, it's within the top section of the options page.

There are some themes where the theme tries to do everything possible in the background. That is a hit or miss in terms of which ones those are. Usually the bloated themes will mention dozens of cool things the theme can do.

Also a few things I didn't mention before. Don't over load the website with too many plugins. Any that's not being used, delete them. Same with themes. Sometimes people will test lots of free themes before settling on one or buying one, and leave all the other themes installed and deactivated. Delete them. It safer to just have the active theme, and a default theme like TwentySeventeen. Deactivated themes still use resources in the background, and having them around can also open for someone to exploit. They can always be reinstalled at a later time.

If wordpress is properly update and if we avoid unwanted plugins it will just work fine. Most of the times plugins are major cause of website hack or website loading issues.

Why should free themes not be used?

It's a somewhat general rule since many free themes can have exploits in them. If the theme is from WordPress.org, then there's a higher trust level of no issues, but from any where else...be weary.

Then he should have said not to use free themes from unreliable sources. His statement was in general. I was asking why because I have used a huge number of free themes that I got from WordPress.org and never had a single issue.

The source should also be considered for paid themes. You can get paid themes that should not be used as well.

WordPress is pretty good as you can get a lot of themes and use a simple builder. You can also move your website to most hosts if you have an issue.

wordpress is my main choice because of the sheer support and availability of themes/plugins on there. I'm also using shopify and normal html + bootstrap on some sites.

I was a html user and in the last few years I have provided wp sites for easy use to the customer. Not everyone use wp like eCommerce sites use php. and html is best for hosting provides due to security. So there is lots of room for luring different types of sites.
