I prefer to use a PNG file of format for my website's pictures. It's a Portable Network Graphics that has a quality graphic comparing to other bitmap files of an image.

Basically i use Jpeg format images, because of it's a standard format of photo, an it can be use almost everywhere. This is why i use this type of images, but, for animated images i prefer GIF format images, but it cant be use everywhere except some websites such as: google accounts.

It depends on the picture. If it's a high-quality digital piece, I'm more likely to use PNG. If it's a picture of a sculpture or a sketch, I use JPEG.
PNG also handles transparency, and JPEG can't. That's a big deciding factor for my stuff too.
Agreed with you, only a purpose of using png files are they have transparent background which can easily decorate on web pages without getting problems on its borders.

It depends on what you hope to achieve, you may refer to the following:

JPEG or JPG - Joint Photographic Experts Group, particularly for those images produced by digital photography. Best recommended with Realtime images.

PNG - Portable Network Graphics, most widely used with image compression format on the Internet. For me, if I will be needing cartoon images or avatars for example it would be best in PNG format.

GIF
- Graphics Interchange Format, for images that supports animation this is one of the best options for images.

When it comes to picture file formats, however, the option is determined by the unique requirements and use cases. JPEG is a popular image format for pictures and complicated images, but PNG is preferable for images with transparency or sharp edges.

WebP is a good choice for the web.

WebP typically achieves significantly smaller file sizes compared to other common image formats like JPEG and PNG. It utilizes advanced compression techniques such as lossy and lossless compression, as well as predictive coding and entropy coding, resulting in efficient image compression.

With smaller file sizes, WebP images can be loaded faster, reducing the overall page load time. This is particularly beneficial for websites with numerous images or graphics, where faster loading can enhance user experience and improve website performance.

WebP supports both transparent and opaque images, similar to the PNG format. It provides the option to include an alpha channel, enabling the creation of images with varying levels of transparency.

Over time, browser support for WebP has significantly increased. Major web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Microsoft Edge, now natively support WebP. For unsupported browsers, fallback options can be implemented to ensure compatibility.

WebP also supports animated images, similar to GIF files, but with potentially smaller file sizes. This can be useful for creating lightweight and visually appealing animations on websites.
