Yes godaddy increase prices at the time of renewal its better to off auto renewal option for your account . You can pay the price manually if you want else you can move another domain provider .

Thanks

Godaddy was great like 10-15 years ago. $18 is A LOT for a .com in 2019. I would cancel the recurring straight away and migrate to another registrar before the domain expires next year.

Have you seen godaddy's commercials? They aren't cheap and got to get the money for them somewhere :p

But I would say it is due to .coms not being cheap and godaddy just wants to make extra profit really.

A lot of us purchase our first domain from GoDaddy as they usually offer huge discount. However, the domain renewal price on GoDaddy is costliest.

It is silly, as a lot of good domain registrars charge only $8.99 and offers features like who.is, and support for free. At any point of time, you should avoid using GoDaddy for domain renewals.

Okay, may I suggest, if you like GoDaddy's interface, either grab a GoDaddy Reseller account or go with a current GoDaddy reseller? Some resellers are now able to undercut GoDaddy and give a fair price, and I actually operate such an account with less spam (no cross-selling page before you get to Check-out).

I do it because I am selling to my fellow design & development pros, who know they need hosting with their domain name.

Oh, and it's not my HD Web Hosting website/shop. But I don't want to mention it here because I don't want to spam. But you could set yourself up with the reseller package and get the same buy price deal, if you can get the Super Reseller (not the Basic Reseller or the Pro Reseller) package.

If that isn't good for you, you can always sign-up for a free reseller program, but then the purchase price (and the retail price) is higher per domain, per year. There are many such options there.

You really don't have to resell in most cases, just use the reseller program for getting yourself and/or your company better prices.

Anyways, just another option. I like GoDaddy's domain name management system (for the most part) and I also like the Managed WordPress.

I agree, over the years they got quite expensive and this is not news. I mean most providers provide domains very cheap and turns out that renewals are really expensive!! Thats a kind of cheating or should I say not a good practice..

I have stuck to and recommended BigRock as a domain name provider to colleagues because even if they might seem a but tad expensive while buying, their renewals are not expensive and you will stick to them because of good service and security..

I would also like to add I have never seen working codes for domain renewals either with GoDaddy. When I asked them they said renewal codes are rarely given out.
