So I've been in this industry for decades now, and I pretty much fell into it as I found server management challenging and the prospect of what I could make a server do fun and challenging.

But I'm curious, what makes you tick? Why did you join this industry where you get no respect, little sleep and everyone wants everything for 1/2 the cost you pay for it! But seriously I still love it.

Well I went for web designing, then html, then php then ofcourse hosting and at the end I though why not my own. So here it hostmayo. To be honest I wonder all the time how this industry is surviving when there margins are so thin. Maybe I am missing something or may be this is the way it is.

I don't think so and web hosting is always a good niche and giving more benefit. Number of websites are increasing daily and to open a new website then web hosting is a must-have, thus if you do right way, your customers are always around you.

The pricing is due to all the resellers and companies doing what ever it takes to get the customer and most of them fail due to loses.

Hosting customers are getting smarter and know if something is to cheap then it can't be profitable for the company. We have never played the price game and are quite expensive compared to some and have no problems with growth due to recommendations by happy clients who know they are paying for quality.

It's all about volume. We're 15 years old, but in today's climate It's probably pretty tough to get started, certainly if you're doing off the shelf hosting products.
Getting started in the hosting business these days is like having to smash through 100 tons of granite. Everyone goes to the big brands like GoDaddy and EIG trash and only find out it's bad after they have paid and then lose faith in any other provider.

I started in hosting by chance. I always loved web design and working with dynamic scripts. Use to run very popular sites with my mate. Soon realized what we know is very specialized, and many people want websites but don't have the know-how. So we started offering our services to them, then started recommending hosts.
Then expanded to resell dedicated servers with the added service that we were already providing, and before you know it a business model emerged.
Offering Shared hosting is a fairly new venture in contrast, but having been in the industry makes it easier to get going.

The likes of Wix/Square space are tapping into customers who know even less about hosting than those we used to help. Their marketing budget is huge, which is giving them an edge. This only applies to those just starting out in hosting. Shared hosting still has its place, as once people realize the limitations of Wiz/Squarespace and want to expand, they need shared hosting.
Its certainly more crowded than it used to be, but still possible.

I created my first site in 2007, thinking it would be the only site I would have :)

But as time moved on I found the portfolio grew and so did the hosting costs.

I always had friends and people recommended, approach me for advice on a new website and where to host.

I decided to set up my own hosting.

I was creating websites and softwares for others since 2011. It takes a lot of patience and hard working to create a great software that benefits its customers. I created from hotel booking, bus booking, online exams, school management softwares, library management softwares, blogs, e-commerce platforms, commercial platforms, web services, mobile apps and a lot more. A lot of my clients were very satisfied with those softwares.

Then one day I thought why not for my own need. Then I started a blog of my own. That required a web hosting and I decided to buy GoDaddy hosting. It had several plans and the basic plan was still very costly. So after 1 year when it reminded me for renewal I had discussion with one of my client and after that decided to start my own hosting company that can provide quality web hosting services at lower rates.

This way started for my own need and moved to web hosting provider.
