Is it possible to use Multiple MX records in the DNS? I'm little bit confused because I am using only a MX record in cPanel but on other websites I used Google apps and Google provided me multiple MX records like this

Code:
1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM
10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM
Please let me know what is right and what is wrong?

Thanks in advance.

You can use multiple MX records for single domain. You need to set the priority for the MX records so they will work properly. Or you can set the backup MX records. When main MX records will not work then it will start working with the backup MX records. The advantage of this MX records is that there won't be any issue with the email even though the first MX records will stop working.

Usually it is enough to use one MX record. If you use more than one, then you should set a priority for them. Priority tells the server which MX record to use first. Priority can be set from 0 to 100.

The record provided to you by Google is normal when using G Suit. From the provided MX record, you could use only one (ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM) and G Suit would work just fine, because this is main mail server. However, it is highly recommended to set all the provided MX records, because other servers are used as backups.

Hello,

Yes. you can apply multiple MX record and create email accounts on specific server. In case you have same account on two different server. Which ever have the priority first will receive the email first.

MX records allow multiple entries with priorities. The lower priority MX records will be the first attempt and if they fail the 2nd lower priority is tried and so on.

cPanel is setting only a single MX , because its just one server involved that can handle email. While Google has many servers that handle email.

Yes it is possible to have multiple MX records. cPanel only gives 1 MX record because it is single server doing all of the work, Google apps has multiple server's to ensure all email gets processed in the event of server failure. Having multiple MX records provides redundancy so you can continue to send and receive mail if one of the server's fails and is offline.

Wrong, you can set multi MX records in cPanel like you set MX records from Google apps in cPanel. Perhaps, you have not even done this. :)

So I'm wrong, but you're agreeing with me. :icon_rock:

I think you may have misinterpreted the entirety of my post, cPanel, runs a single mail server thus provides no redundancy and does all of the work itself. Of course you can add multiple MX records but that isn't using cPanel's mail server. As OP was referring to,

I'm little bit confused because I am using only a MX record in cPanel
