What are the pros and cons of each one (WebDav, NFS, FTP)? From my own experience, WebDAV is much slower than NFS, while FTP has limited integration with Windows. What is your recommendation? What are you using in your home environment to share files?

For Linux files sharing, I use NFS, which is fast and easy to setup.

For Linux + Windows files sharing, I use CIFS (samba), which do the same than NFS but with Windows Compatibility.

SFTP is faster and more secure than FTP. Try to avoid FTP or to use FTPS to make sure your data are encrypted during files transfers

I'm using FTP, it is the fastest way to get large files from one computer to another. I can transfer files back and forth. It is also secured because you need to provide a username and password. Therefore, if you are looking for a file server that can hold large files that is available for download to large group of people then i suggest FTP is the best one to choose.

FTP isn't the fastest way to transfer files. solutions like rsync are much faster.

And if you don't use FTPS, your user/password and all your data are transfered without being encrypted and can be easily intercepted if someone is sniffing traffic in your network area.
