I disable my antivirus so many times and so far i am not experiencing any kinds of threat with my computer. It's not that i want to, I'm thinking maybe I am just lucky though. But does antivirus really help your computers? Some of my friends told me that even with their antivirus updated, they still encounter things, i don't know what are those but it seems they are complaining about their antivirus. What could be the best program to use?

Yes, antivirus work if you install or use the right and the latest version. Some people may think there is nothing like antivirus and if it exists, it does work. While I agree with an aspect of this phenomenon/theory, I disagree with the other part. Antivirus are like apps but they are categorized as utilities under system software. While an app may require Internet connection to work and function, others may not really need that.
There are some effective antivirus that need Internet connection to function while others may work offline. Some people forget that most antivirus need to be updated constantly so as to perform their functions effectively. To enjoy antivirus also, one needs to use premium version to have access to some special/ locked features. Premium version means paid version , where you pay annually or monthly for the use of the antivirus. Free version antivirus are only effective for the period of trial in which it is allotted. So, using the right antivirus, the premium type and updating to new version maybe key to effective and working antivirus.

If you will run the latest version of the antivirus then it will work 100%. If you would order the paid and licensed version of the antivirus then it will work definitely. Those used to detect all types of threats. You can set the auto-update feature of the anti-virus then anti-virus will work properly. You should have proper internet connection for that purpose.

While accessing any type of website or web page you should make sure that is secure page. There are not be any malicious contents which will affect your system so you should be very careful. So you should have the proper configuration settings in the antivirus which will detect all types of threats.

Most of the anti-virus programs carry security features against virus or any other threat that will wreck havoc to your PC or steal information from you. Since new and smarter threats are being created, these programs are also updated from time-to-time so there is a real need for you to download the new version. Windows 10 for example has built-in Windows Defender and Windows Firewall.

Protection against intrusion of malware is a necessity. A preventive measure is better than saving or finding cure once already infected.

Yes it is necessary in every PC . But you must installed it properly so that i will function well. Some anti virus specially the free version limit their function, if you want the full capability of the anti virus that you want you need to get it premium. But for me free version is ok. As long it's gonna block , delete, those viruses that may come in on my computer system it ok to me.

Most of the time, a proper, updated antivirus program will work. Most antivirus programs nowadays are capable of eliminating and blocking any types of virus, malware, maybe trojan, etc., so it does help your computer function normally, and keep your information safe and secure. I can't really find a reason to complain about antivirus programs.

I don't think there's the best antivirus program to use, as most antivirus programs nowadays seems to have the same quality and carry out the same work. But for recommendation, I suggest trying out Avast. I have been using it for a while, and it's been working perfectly.

Contrary to what everyone else is saying here, anti-virus is not essential.

Yes, it's good practice to have it running and updated. Yes, it's convenient for securing your computer. If however you only install software that's trusted, and don't install random software from the internet (e.g. those dozens of Bitcoin scripts and software from weird publishers), you should be fine.

I'd say a well configured firewall would yield much more mileage compared to anti-virus, but these are two types of software that do completely different things, and some anti-virus software includes a firewall.

I've stopped using anti-virus as of about 10 years ago. I've yet to get an infection. Then again, I don't visit weird websites and I have very high security settings on all of my devices. Script execution on websites disabled, everything updated to the latest, running privacy protection software, and so on.

So, if you don't download crazy software all the time, then you probably don't need anti-virus; but if you install a lot of software (even trusted), and it can be exploited, then yes, you do need anti-virus.

My two cents.

You don't need to use an anti virus if you are using a MacOS computer or a Linux system
With windows, I will install one from every brand and company! :p

Good luck!

That's a bad idea as some antivirus systems recognize each other as viruses. It will actually lower your defenses rather than increase it.
The best setup is to use an antivirus system that is doing it's work all the time but also keeping an advanced anti-malware software for occasional scans.

Anti-virus works! All you need to do is always update the latest version so that it can detect and identify the virus that will possibly infect your PC or laptop. One more thing is that the anti-virus software should also be authentic not pirated or else it cannot clean or remove the virus that has infected your laptop or PC.

Yes, antivirus programs do work. They keep your system from getting hijacked by an attacker or infected by malware. But it's important to choose the right antivirus for your needs. If you run a big business and have important files in your system then by all means get the best premium antivirus you can find. Run regular scans and keep it updated because attackers find new ways to destroy your system every day.

Other than your antivirus there are several things that you need to do to ensure your system's security. These include:

* Updating your software such as your Operating System and similar software. Did you know that many hackers learn how to penetrate systems by practicing on Windows 7 and XP? :) Security updates for software is a must.
* Avoiding sketchy websites with malicious looking ads.
* Avoid installing applications from a non-reputed source. Just google the software and after a thorough search conclude whether or not you should install it.

By the way, just because you have not faced any issues does not mean that your system is safe. You could probably have a key logger virus on your PC right and you probably won't know it. Don't disable your antivirus, man. If it causes issues and you don't have really important files to protect then keep a lightweight and possibly free antivirus around.

Most AntiVirus and AntiMalware scanners are signature based . They cross-check the file against a known database of file signatures. So they work , but results are dependant on how good the signature database are and how updated they are

Actually, anti-virus do exist. But do you know that anti-virus is a great business too? Little do people know that Anti-virus company also creates their own viruses. But despite that, we should be always vigilant whenever we access sites or files online. It can definitely put our desktop / laptop at risk. Also always update your anti-virus for maximum protection. For now, I use ESET NOD 32 with Malwarebytes and CCleaner. These prevents viruses from spreading all over my flies. Anti-viruses don't costs too much. Better save for it and buy it than pirating.

Anti-virus for computers can create a sense of security especially if you are visiting different sites. For others, they use anti-virus just for the sake that it is built-in from the company they worked with. However, if you were to ask some of the experts on computer, they are not using anti-virus at all. At first, I wonder why? So I started seeing myself as a hacker for example. If I want to hack a certain company, I would already test whether or not my hacking expertise would penetrate a certain anti-virus.

I can agree that anti-virus can really detect a computer virus, but not every type of it. I would take a human vaccination as a parallelism for this situation. We get vaccinated in order to be immunized, but I learned that there are new respiratory viruses which are spreading very fast, and the vaccine that had been given was already, as I would call it, outdated. Therefore, there will be a big chance for a person to get sick if he is not in a proper shape. So, a newer computer virus, needs an updated anti-virus.

I did try lots of anti virus protections in the past but they didn't really satisfy my expectations, until I decided to no longer install anti virus in my PC. The result was just the same as when I had the anti virus installed. It is always wise to store your back ups in your external drive.

Yes antivirus, antimalware programs work. It only depends on the brand or type of virus and malware protection that you are using. I suggest, go with well known and has great credibility in removing viruses in your pc such as Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.
There are some times when you won't feel satisfied with their performance because you feel like there are still viruses in your pc. This is when you should update your antivirus to look for new definitions of viruses, and for your software to identify such new strain of security threat in your laptop.

Yes they work. But it depends on the software brand you use or how updated it is. It’s like an Android vs. IOS situation. It’s not a matter of if it’s working or not, it’s a matter of which one really works for you. It’s just the same as buying any other product; you have to look for which one is really applicable for you. All you have to do is do your own research and comparison. Look into the specs and features and see which ones have the set of features or functions that suit your needs. When checking however, you have to look into the following factors:

WEBSITE: You have to make sure you check their own websites, not personal blogs or articles from various webpages. If there is a website that can give you the most accurate information, it would be the brand’s website. Checking blogs and articles have chances of inaccuracy.

NEED: Know what you are exactly looking for in anti-virus software. Make a checklist if you have to. Whichever has the most features and functions that match your need, then that’s the one.

VERSION: In relevance to the website, make sure you are getting the software from the correct source. Like the information on features, do not get the software from sites that you are not sure of. There are sites that provide the download for the software but the version it carries are not the most updated ones.

Ofcourse, Anti-virus really works and it can prevent a thousand of viruses that can be found in your own PC. But there are times that our anti-virus can't detect the strong viruses in the internet world. Anti-virus programs really helps us to maintain the security of our PC. It also preventing the malicious sites when we go through it. Always remember that you must have an anti-virus installed on your PC to lessen the damage that viruses can done to your PC or Laptops.
