For starting the web hosting business, you should have some knowledge of the server administration. You should know the some concepts as DNS management, disk partition, bandwidth allocation, disk space management, server security, firewall setup.

If third person is going to manage your server, still you should have knowledge of these concept. Once you will get familiar with it then you can order the VPS or dedicated server with needed configuration. You can host the sites on it. You will need to perform the digital marketing and local marketing strategies for acquiring the clients.

You will need to do mouth marketing at the initial stage. Once you will get customers then you just need to do digital marketing for your business.

It's not exactly tough with the number of resources out there. Management providers can manage the server for you, outsource support can support your clients. Countless guides... the list goes on.
The only tough bit about it is getting clients, and finding your niche.
You need to persevere - don't expect to make a profit for at least the first year. There are many, many hosts - so the supply is huge. You need your niche to set you apart from other hosts.

You'll need a solid budget for both operating costs and marketing. Capital for your startup costs such as web design, marketing, software costs, establishment fees for a merchant account (Stripe and PayPal is free. But other merchants may charge), plus any other media such as banners, content, blog posts, SEO, etc.

How to start?

You need to have these factors to start a web hosting company

- A team with good knowledge on how to manage and solving problem on web servers, hosting, websites..etc
- Money to advertise and getting new clients for your hosting services
- A website to offer what you are having ( web hosting services )
- Customer care service, its also important for all kind of web hosting companies

Hope that helped.

Sounds nice, but you've missed something important. The hardware itself! ;)

Actually anyone can become a hoster, all you need is a decent VPS with WHM installed and you can start selling 'web hosting' packages right away. It's a low-risk/low-gain option that will get you involved in the industry and help you obtain experience, knowledge and relevant skill-sets.

Right, everyone can become a hosting provider but the key is how to support customers when they have problems on their web hosting. If someone owns servers but don't have skills how to manage them, they can fail in supporting their customers and that's really is a big problem.

what do you expect from it ?
Make a living out of it ? Or just a little extra?

Market is really overcrowded ! Unless you bring some type of inovation, everything else is out there.

Yes Market is really overcrowded but to win other competitors, you have to know how to find potential customers, that can be solved by marketing campaigns, I am sure big hosting companies out there are applying and using marketing effectively. No one knows your services are good if you don't let them know via advertising and marketing.

If you have a good local network with friends, family and colleagues just start with a reseller plan and later if you think this business is for you, and you start growing move to a VPS or a dedicated.
For now, and until that happen, start with a reseller account, don't put all your eggs in one basket, and always, always offer good support for all your customers. Service and support is King in this industry! good luck!

If you have the skills to do it, then I don't see any problem doing that. But if you are not an expert, definitely you have to hire someone to do it for you. Establishing one also requires some good amount of money.

From a technical perspective it's not super difficult. There are enough resources around to answer any questions that may come up.

From a money-making perspective it will be extremely tough. There are so many web hosts that it often feels like a 'race to the bottom' if you try and compete on price alone. Best thing is to target a niche clientèle and focus your packages/services on their needs. Another way to stand out is to provide excellent customer service/support - this is something a lot of the 'big guys' are missing.

Starting any business is not that tough, especially web hosting. You can easily buy a domain and hosting and become a reseller for some hosting provider. However, getting customers is the toughest part. You have to apply all your marketing strategies to even get a really small fraction of the market.

before starting a web hosting business, you must be a customer of some web hosting, you can learn from there, duplicate them & use your own creativity

use reseller hosting package for starter, its not that expensive currently
