Thinking of migrating to Linode due to slow performance on shared server. What is your experience?

I have been running my website on Bluehost for almost an year. Currently, I have average 700 daily visitors on my PHP based site. Since the last month, I am facing some issues on my site. It has become slower than before and sometimes returns 500 error. I have tried every thing to optimize the performance of my website, but it is still slow. I think the culprit behind this slow performance is shared server. If this is the reason, I have two options. I can either upgrade my server or migrate to some VPS. Right now, I am leaning towards Linode because I can scale up server size anytime. I have heard good things about them from few of my friends who are using it. I want to know your experience with Linode and which option would be right for my site?

Shared hosting performance are most of time not really good, and migrating to a VPS will provide you more resources and you will be able to handle more traffic. But the main difference between shared hosting and VPS hosting is the server administration. Linode is a very good provider (not like bluehost..) but you will have to setup the server yourself.
You can still try solutions like serverpilot to manage your server.

If you are on Shared Hosting account at the moment, and if you are looking for another Shared host, Linode is not your best option as they do VPS. I'd suggest you to go find any quality Cloud-based Shared Hosting service.

700 visitors per day it's not that much for a shared environment.
I don't see the need for a VPS here and the management cost associated.
Are you sure you didn't install anything recently that is the cause of the slower performance?
Why not working with your hosting company and check what's going on?...

You are getting the 500 error message because your server is failed to provide the required resources/bandwidth/inode to your website. You can either upgrade your hosting plan or you can move your service to the VPS. VPS will fulfill your requirements as there won't be any sharing of resources/bandwidth/inode on it. It's completely dedicated to your service.

On shared hosting server, resources/bandwidth/inode is used to get distribute among the number of sites hosted on the same server that is why you can not run the site which needs the high resources on it. So first of all, you should make sure that the new plan is going to fulfill your requirements then move your website on it.

That sounds like a lot of work. How does serverpilot helps here?
Serverpilot provide you a clean interface to easily manage your website on a linode or digitalocean server (it work on all vps providers). This way you do not have to make too much configuration yourself and there are several guides and tutorials to use it.

Does cloud based shared hosting provide scalability?
With or without Cloud, shared hosting is still the same. Resources are shared and isolation is done with cloudlinux. For me that's your provider job to use server clustering to host your subscription, but performance are the same.

Well, I'm not a big fan of shared hosting and mostly never recommend Bluehost, Hostgator or GoDaddy hosting. But it's up to you if they are working well for you. In your case, you need to Buy dedicated VPS like Linode and DigitalOcean and managed them Via Cloudways because it is providing the upscaling and downscaling feature for servers. By luck, they have also integrated Linode so that would be a good point for you. You can launch complete LAMP stack on servers. Also, there are a lot of things you can do directly from the panel.
