I have a dedicated server which has 12 vps using OpenVZ. I want to monitor the volume of emails sending by each vps/ip so I can stop spammer effectively. Moreover limiting the outbound emails will be added advantage but at least I want to know which tool you guys use for this purpose.

There are several monitoring tools. I would suggest, go with the Nagios tool. It will display the continuous mail queue of the server. Or you can have the own server script which will monitor the mail queue as well as the email address which is sending emails. You will come to know the which user is sending the email.

hi,

You could make your Webservers only consider the 'send transaction' done when they receive the final '250 OK' from the mail server.

If they don't get that, they should retry the send. That should take care fo the lost forever issue when the smtp server fails on the reception.
