They are offering storage redundancy, your files are saved in a storage area network so if something fails it should not have impact on your website uptime.

I have checked that same exact site as you did. It actually left me with a couple of unanswered questions as well. One of them that we share is the "what is Fault-Tolerant" That really left me scratching my head as well. So I'm also asking that if anyone could explain that to me I would really be grateful. Very specific and simple details would be awesome. Thank you in advance.

Hi @RafaelJames, Hi @Pearl88

As we are the one to do Fault-Tolerant Web Hosting, I'm happy to explain it. We use Storage Area Network (SAN) built with enterprise class appliances of QSAN which come with built-in data protection, against failures. This is achieved by redundant controllers which support the storage groups. In case of any failure or any storage group. we can go and return the previous state of the storage (before the failure). So in other words the client's data (any data) is protected and there is not interruption of the storage service. WE also use VMware SDS (SDS means "Software Defined Storage"), but it is very expensive and cannot be used for Shared Hosting.

At the same time the processing resources assigned to web hosting accounts or Virtual Instances (VPS or Cloud Servers, depending of the technology) are delivered from VMware-based Cloud computing infrastructure.

Thanks!

It means it will have no downtime if using Fault-Tolerant?
I would like to have extra question for a normal web hosting like shared or VPS, can I use this feature for our websites?

@RafaelJames Fault-Tolerant Storage means that there is a built-in protection against failures as a part of the storage technology. When ti comes to Shared Hosting if the storage is fault-tolerant and built with enterprise SSD (Samsung SM863a) as ours, it also offers High Performance and excellent Input/Output. When the processing operations come from Cloud Servers (CPU, RAM and any other processions operations come from Cloud infrastructure), then the infrastructure risk of service outage (downtime) is virtually zero. You can call it 100% uptime system.

Yes, for Virtual Servers (VPS), we host them in a Cloud infrastructure and they also use fault-tolerant storage. But there is another 2 levels of failover - High Availability (HA) and Automated Faul-Tolerance (on the Cloud Servers, not of the storage, as the storage one is provided by default).

Does this answer your questions?

We do Fault-Tolerant storage both for:
- Shared Hosting
- Cloud Servers (Cloud VPS or Cloud VMs)

Most web hosting providers do not offer fault-tolerance because it is very expensive. One single Storage Area Network (SAN) appliance that offers fault-tolerant storage as a service, full of enterprise SSDs starts at $25,000. Most providers by or rent cheap servers.

Fault tolerant web hosting services are the services which do not have the impact of the fault that is loss of connection, network issue, server issue, router, switch goes down, firewall issue or any other issue of network loss.

If there is power outage then there will be defending system which will keep websites live. The natural disaster is also include in the fault tolerant system. The provides always have the backup systems like the network infrastructure, switches/routers, power generators which will keep the web servers active.

I would suggest, make sure the web hosting service is fault tolerant.
