I think VPS hosting is awesome. Many people are choosing other hosting options like shared hosting because maybe you have minimal traffic on your website. What about when your traffic increases and you have to start thinking of changing your hosting plan? Then what?I think using VPS is like carrying a jacket everyday to work in your briefcase. In case it rains, you don't have to get wet.In case it doesn't,oh well you don't lose anything.Compare this with cloud hosting, kindly give me your thoughts.:)

Cloud hosting -

Cloud hosting service will have the on demand resource allocation. There is harder security setup on the cloud hosting service.

Main principle of cloud hosting is divide as per the need. Cloud used to distribute the required resources on multiple servers as used them as per the requirement. There are multiple servers work together. If one server fails then other will start loading the same task without any delay. Cloud is nothing but the one larger storage space and processor.

Here are the some of the advantages of cloud hosting for you -

1. Accessibility - Main advantage of cloud hosting is that the files are accessible anywhere and anytime. You can access the files when you would like to access without matter of place.

2. Backup facility - Cloud hosting service always have the copy of your data on the the server. So in the case of disaster, you will have the copy of data even if the data on the main server get deleted or lost.

3. Low cost solution - You will need to pay just the amount for the storage which you are actually using.

4. Secure service - You don't have to worry about the security. Cloud hosting provider will have the best infrastructure on which you don't need to worry about the security , they have their setup for security.

5. High degree of uptime

VPS -

VPS hosting is best for the low budget and small hosting service. Maintenance cost is also low and VPS are easy to secure.
VPS is your own server with root access. You can host anything on it as it's your server. You can have any applications, software. You will have the bandwidth, resources, inode only for your service, it won't get shared with any other server. You will get dedicated resources for your service on VPS. You can manage the server in your way.

Server will have good up-time and security measures if you will manage it from your end as there won't be interfere of other service. You will have root SSH access too.

These also apply to shared hosting.

- Any file hosted on a web server (shared, cloud, vps or dedicated) is accessable globally.

- All hosting companies should provide a backup solution. However, you should also keep your own backups of important data.

- Cloud hosting is no more secure then traditional shared web hosting.

Most importantly, "Cloud" is probably the most overused maketing term in the industry. Just because a provider say "cloud", does not bean you should assume any difference over a traditional cPanel account!

What about when your traffic increases and you have to start thinking of changing your hosting plan?
There are VPS providers were you can get spec upgrades without having to migrate and with no downtime, so an increase of traffic souldn't be a problem in that case.

VPS referes to a virtual private server hosted on a stand-alone physical server. Cloud Server refers to a virtual server hosted on a clustered (Cloud) computing infrastructure. Cloud servers come with scalability and other services such as Load balancing, Hight Availability (HA) / Failover and Fault-Tolerance (on any level). A VPS hosted on a stand-alone server can go down at any time due to load on the VPS itself or on the underlying physical machine. On the Cloud an interruption of the service could happen on the Cloud Server (Cloud VM or Cloud VPS) itself if it does not use HA or Fault-Tolerance, but not on the underlying infrastructure.

I hope that this helps!

If you're looking to launch as quickly as possible and don't care about scale, then a VPS server can be a great starting point.

However, if you demand a flexible hosting setup and a high level of site performance and storage then it's worth checking out a cloud hosting environment.

I recommend going with a VPS unless you can find a TRUE cloud vps which is rare these day. Cloud is supposed to be if your vps goes down another vps kicks in with a copy so you aren't down. Most webhosts these day say it's cloud but it's not.

For me I prefer VPS because a major difference between a VPS and a private cloud is the LOCATION of the hardware. A Virtual Private Server(VPS) is generally hosted at an off-site, third-party web hosting provider. Unlike the clouds use hardware that is solely for the use of that particular cloud and is not shared with other users.

That's my own opinion and maybe some of you prefer Clouds, hope it helps

Hello Kieranlewix,

If you know how work OS Linux and you have basic skills of administration (tuning apache, MySQL, memcache ...etc) , then better for you is VPS, you can upgrade CPU and RAM , also you can upgrade your storage but need reboot os and resize fs.

If you don't wont spend many time for administration than better for you cloud hosting or shared.

For both you must do all time BACKUP to your local storage or to other DC.

If the VPS or "Cloud" server are in the similar price range, most likely that the cloud server is just a high availability VPS. You might be better off just renting a decent quality VPS.

Agreed on this. VPS would be pretty much decent for you. If you happen to need more space etc, just upgrade to the next available plan your hosting company provides. If VPS can't provide you what cloud hosting has, then you can consider taking up that. Eitherway, both hosting has its pros and cons, it is up for you to debate. :ertery:

One physical server, divided into many smaller server slices that every act as their own virtual server surroundings.Cloud servers utilize multiple servers connected along during a cluster that is backed by SAN storage. Customers utilizing a cloud platform can get pleasure from the multiple servers as a result of they'll receive unlimited storage, most information measure, managed load equalisation and no ties to a selected piece of hardware. the essential distinction between public and personal clouds square measure publically, the cluster is multi-tenant and a non-public may be a single consumer.
