Hi Raman,

I see alot of local business search engines pop up every day. As you mention most of them based on a topic like service orientated, like restarants, food, taxi, travel and co. Some of them concentrate on the fact that business entries in Google are really bad. To change something there is actual an own horrible trip. Since I use for example for my company a Google Maps location, a Goolge Plus page and Google Review I have all of the sudden 5 Google+ pages for my company. One is the page one is the timeline and one is the brand page. Wait what? Yes, Google makes a horrible job to even let us consolidate them all into one. Ofcourse our YouTube channel existed before and now thisone has also a Google+ page. The advantage of local search engines will always exist as long as there service is easier accessible as their big brother Google. Also fair to see is the fact that language support and added value willl make them successful, for example to book immidiate. cheers

Yes, I believe the local search engines will survive and still be there in the future. Google is bringing in a change of doing local searches, the ones that adapt and adopt the changes will be there but the one's that will not embrace the competion will be a thing of the past in future.

If they can provide good services then they can have a good future. Plus, they are always backed up by Google, so they can still have a good reputation even though they are behind the competition between search engines.

Most local search engines cater to a special market or specific groups of products or services. There will always be a demand for easy reference especially if the industry covers a wide array of offers/categories and areas. This is specially true for industries like travel, hotel, reataurants, home/real estate, etc.

Take for example Baidu, this is the most popular search engine in China, with 80% market share while Google China is just a runner-up.

Students I know still use Ask.com for their assignments.

SearchTempest is a search engine for online classified ads from Craiglist, ebay and Amazon, etc.

There are the emergence of pro-privacy search engines like DuckDuckGo, Hulbee.

In general, Google may still be the popular worldwide search engine worldwide but there will be other companies who will find opportunity in niche marketing and build a reputation based on their specialty. This is target marketing catering to specific markets and must be supported by related companies who wish added exposure to their business.

Hi there,

I believe that there is still hope and there's a chance that the local search engines are still in demand with different reasons. As what Nancy G said, in China they have a different search engine and it has great traffic among Chinese. With me, I sometimes use Yahoo since I have an email registered to them just like with Google (gmail) and I know some people who uses the same for their email. So I guess its still there to serve us.

Local SEO is the technique which is type of online business which targets the local customers in their time and according to their need. It helps to get your site rank in Google as well as in business directories . Number of people used to search for the local business in their area, for example, nearby hotels, places to visit, places to shop etc. This is increasing the online marketing of your service so it is essential to have local search engine.

To be honest, I have never thought of this question, but now that you mention it, I think it's a good discussion to have. Come to think about it, most search engines e.g Google, Bing, and Yahoo are tailored to countries like the Us, Uk, and Canada. Most of the results you get first would be from these three countries. It's a very good idea to have local search engines and I think there is room in the market for their growth.

This can be seen by the fact that Google has an office in almost every country and tries to adopt its searches to specific countries. I think the locals of the country need to take the initiative and come up with their own search engines. The problem I think is a lack of human and financial resources.

I believe that the local search engines have a future yes because through these mechanisms you can get more specific information of the place where you are located. In the city where I live, programmers have launched an application that shows several places in the city, divided by classes, for example, restaurants, bars, schools, among other places, this application is being used a lot since there is a period of the year that the city receives enough tourists and through this application, the search for places becomes easier.
Of course google is still the most used tool, but I believe that these local applications have a future yes.
