I was just wondering, how do you know if you have to shift to a VPS service from a shared hosting service? Shared hosting packages are very confusing since they say that they offer unlimited disk space as long as you are "fully compliant" with their terms of service. Some also say that they have no set limits when it comes to bandwidth but also state that some customers "outgrow" the shared architecture of their servers wherein their websites become successful and receive a ton of traffic. Thus, not being truly unlimited.:violent:

What amount of monthly traffic is needed in order to outgrow a shared hosting package to warrant a shift to VPS?

According to my experience on a website that used a shared hosting in the past then it needed to move to a VPS when it had around 120 users online all the time and 3000 visitors per day.
With amount of that traffic, it was suspended sometimes because there are so many processes at a point on my website and my shared hosting provider recommended to upgrade to a VPS 4GB of RAM to accommodate high traffic . But anyway, it depends on each shared hosting provider, some could accommodate more traffic while others can be not. Even with the amount of traffic mentioned above then a VPS could not handle and you need to be careful when choosing a VPS and how you will optimize it.

When you will feel the website is loading slow and consuming the more resources, exceeding the bandwidth that time you can switch to VPS.
But it's not always recommended because it might happen if you've sing-up for very small hosting plan. Son in that case you will need to upgrade your hosting plan.

Your hosting provider can suggest you the best time to opt to VPS because he can check the number of processes are running and amount of bandwidth consumed by your VPS.

It all depends how you shared account is setup. Many big companies just host thousands of clients in a single server and you'll feel the need of upgrading to a VPS faster then in a small web hosting with less clients. However, not always a VPS is faster then a good shared account. Keep that in mind when decide to upgrade. Good luck!

This is true. Sometimes, you may have gotten a package which might not be up to par for your requirements. I would upgrade the plan instead of shifting to VPS.Try consulting the hosting provider to see how they may assist you on this.Typically, you might need to check page load times or resource consumption before making the consultation.
