What are the requirements for creating a dedicated server for a game? For example, I wanna make a dedicated server for Minecraft wherein only me and my friend can play on. For starters, what do I need to gather firsthand to get on it? Will it also differ for other games? Thank you for answering! :):):)

For minecraft, you don't need a lot of resources (if there are not thousands of online player at the same time), so you can get started with a linux VPS and you can find easily a tutorial to install minecraft server.
Some providers like Scaleway even provide templates to deploy on a VPS : https://www.scaleway.com/imagehub/minecraft/

I think it's fantastic that you're putting this together for yourself and your friend. You might also give Swiftnode a shout out as they're very much into game servers.

If you wanna host a server just for you and your friend, then it's going to be requiring at all. You don't really have to worry, just look up some guides on YouTube and you're set to go. Other games can be different and it really depends on how many people you're going to host the server for.

If its only you and your friends playing a VPS would be ideal, just make sure to have enough resources such as RAM and CPU. It will be much more cost effective then a dedicated server.

I notice your really looking to find out what you would need for specifications well it all depends on your budget, you would want to start out with 8GB 2x2TB SATA $99/Mo RAM 8GB notice the price, plus you must have 8 GB and two drives (SATA) to start you can upgrade as more players join.

-These requirements only apply to the Survival version of Minecraft, and not to the Classic version.
-Requirements may change depending on the server software, such as using Bukkit and/or mods.
-Java 8.1 is available for Minecraft Servers!
-Linux users should avoid using OpenJDK 6 for server hosting, as it has been known to cause issues
-Only the JRE version is required, however, Java JDK will still work.
-The more memory that your server has, the better. It is recommended to have at least 3 GB of physical RAM in the computer. That way, plenty of RAM is left over for the operating system, and you have the possibility of allocating more to the Minecraft server as needed.
-Minecraft servers, as of 1.1.0, can use multiple cores, so now they will not sit idle and will increase server performance.
Windows or Desktop based Linux distributions aren't recommended for hosting servers, use console based Linux/BSD for maximum performance.
