Hi there,
I am wondering if I can host my Wordpress database (MySQL) in another server which is not the server storing the content (source code, Wodpress files, plugins, themes...etc)
Will that make any performance and security improvement? Is there any service specialized in hosting only database?

Your inputs would be appreciated.

It's definitely possible. Unless your server is overloaded or have a lot of traffic there won't be much performance improvement nor would it be more secure.

That's being said, If you have a huge database and query are slow due to high traffic hosting your site on one server and use another machine for SQL server with Sphinx/MariaDB on SSD would definitely help.

Sure! You can host your website and database on different servers.

It will affect the performance only when your website has too many requests which are handled database. The database traffic is handled by the different server which will make your website to run faster as both servers are identical.

Security improvements include when you will have to provide only database access that time you can just provide only databases details. You don't have to provide the details where your website related contents are there. You can host SQL, MariaDB databases.

How bad the performance will be when the website has too many requests? and what about security? it'll stay the same without improvements cause of database access?

For security purpose i suggest first of all to create a new user which is authorized to access only with the IP address where Wordpress is installed. This makes sure that no other server or client can access the MySQL or Maria DB (you can use either). You can do this by creating the user and authrize him from which HOSTS he is aloowed to connect from. Usal the connection between servers might be fast enough so you have no issues with performance. However fair to mention, you need ot make sure where the two servers are located and make maybe a simple PING test from one server to the other. Any provider can host the DB only if you really want to, question is how big is your DB. I run currenly a BLOG with 300 entries plus 50 website pages and my DB is reaching 60MB which is quite small, no big performance needed.
