Hello fellow members,
I've seen many big online companies today such as Google, Twitter, Snapchat, etc which the service they are offering reflects in their domain name and they see success on the way.

I've also seen so many new start-ups & big companies without naming their domain with what they are offering or selling and still they are seeing success.

I ask this question so as for me to know where to channel my effort on in naming my future domain names.

Does the title of a domain name have an effect on the website success? Should I let my domain name reflect what I'm offering on my website or not? Which one is the best?

I think, domain name affect the website success. Because if the website name is clarifies the purpose of your website then visitors get attract towards your website. It should be catchy. It depends on the marketing approach too. If you are promoting your website in unique way then name doesn't matter.

Certainly, you should be mindful while selecting your corporate domain name. It is much easier to make your end-users and target audience aware of your service with a domain name that reflects your service offering.

Having said that, brandable domain names (like those mentioned) are excellent ways to make your business stand out from others within a similar industry and can be nice assets in branding your company for long-term success.

I think it should not. When choosing a domain name, you can choose it according to your business brand, if that, sometimes the name has no meaningful such as Google, Yahoo...But if you want to get traffic or leads quickly you can choose a name that relates to the market and niche you're in.

Yes domains are named for your business, so if your selling shows it should be (bestshoes.com) if your selling hats it should be (besthats.com) see how important that name is it tells your clients what your selling in the search engines: eg: to get listed in the right category, so if your selling shoes and list your domain as besthats.com your sales will be less due to being listed in the wrong area, so when i click on a search for shoes your website is listed under hats. NO SALES FOR YOU.

If your domain name reflect your niche, it will be easy to brand your business. For example, I have a lingerie website and the domain name I am using for this website is sexybra. Since sexy bra is also a high value keywords, my domain name is brandable. If you domain name has your primary keyword, this will also help you get high ranking on search engines (search engines finds your website throuh the keywords you are using).

It all comes down to what your personal preference is. Some people like to use some kind of keywords or other indicating words in the domain that lets you have an idea about what a site build on that domain might be about, others like to use a brand name or something unique and catchy.

I have used both myself and it always came down to what exactly I was wanting to do. I like domains that are memorable and are good for branding so I usually lean away from domains that have keywords or other identifiers in them.

Look at many of the top sites in the world, many use domains that have nothing to do with what is on their website.

Examples:

amazon.com
ebay.com
bing.com
etsy.com

It all comes down to a personal choice. :thumb:

It depends. If you have a brand name (you should be!) then it is not necessary anymore to put the service name (example: bestspa.com) as your domain name. Let your brand name be your domain name. Well, brand name can lead a business to success. There's a study that most of the successful businesses in the whole world became successful because they have a catchy or beautiful brand names. Your brand name is like the resume of a business. If your brand name is not catchy enough, then less people will acquire your services or buy your products unless if you have a good system and good customer service. To cut the long story short, make your brand name as your domain name. It's a form of marketing your business.

Your domain choice shoud just follow the basic rule on everything about effectivity in the advertising world. It should be simple. While it is after your personal preference to choose whatever domain name you feel like associating with your business, then it should just have to be simple and easy to recall.

Absolutely. If you're promoting or selling a product, or covering a topic or an area of pop culture, film, fashion etc. then yes your domain name should be in line with your content. Come to think of it, I've never landed on a website that had a title in the domain but was not covering that topic once I opened the landing page. Although I am sure it does happen, but most of the time those people are trying to draw traffic through SEO manipulation. Get a link trending in the search engines, and then when people visit the page it's just key words and junk. Surrounded by tons of ads.

All the names of successful websites does not reflect what they do, it's always a symbol or the philosophy they're willing to follow, but now this methodology have gotten a little ridiculous, and choosing something reflecting the website activity might be a good idea.

Of course you must create a domain which relates to what is in the contents in your website. This is very helpful and could honestly a secret of success of your site. Domain name really affects the performance or the rate of the site. This could be a clickbait if you use a domain name which does not relate to the contents in your site. In this case visitors will not trust anymore and will leave your site unrated.

Let's take an example if you were to be a hosting company and your domain is " unlimited.uk", for me I'll just scroll pass it as I will think that this webpage is not trustable.

So to answer your query, yes! Your domain name should really reflect on what you are offering to not confuse the customers. This affects your entire business.

Search engines have "become smarter" so they now read through your website content, so they know what you are offering an what is your website niche.
Because of that, the need to have a "keyword" domain name is not anymore one of the important things, SEO wise.
However, focus is now on the content itself, so be sure to put many meaningful keywords into your website, even different words that mean basically the same are good. Word diversity is positive.

The first thing that people see is your domain name. The next thing they will inquire is what you are offering. Let us say for example your domain name is travelocity.com, you might be inviting us, your viewers, to your adventures in different places. On the other hand, if what you are trying to present is all about the latest technology, you might as well think of a domain name closer to it.

Moreover, you can also use your full name as your domain name, but you have to build your name first in order for people to be attracted in what you do, then after that, you will be earning your viewers, and then, you are on your way to success.

Starting up a domain name takes a lot of patience to have it be established.

For me,domain name by itself is not important. What matters most is the content of your site. It should be easy to understand and relevant what you are offering in the site.

Your domain name is just a start. Of course, you want to get off to a good start. That's why you choose a domain name which is short, simple and easy to remember. After that you add content to give meaning to your domain name. Over time, your domain name will be associated with your domain name.
