How do you decide between having a colo or data center ?

What's your understanding of these terms. I have heard that both are similar but just a matter of how you call it. Is this true ?

In the case that it's different, which one of the two is better ? Your inputs are appreciated so I can get some clarification on this.

Colo and a Datacenter are different things.

Data Center = A building containing servers, networks and Internet connections
Colo = One or more U in a rack inside the datacenter.

Colocation is a provision or datacenter provision, wherein a business can choose to rent out a space for their servers and other hardwares.
