There is a lot to say actually,

Shared Hosting Pros:
Comes with a GUI control panel out of the box (mostly cPanel/Plesk)
Usually is hassle free with few of the resources like Disk space and Bandwidth
Usually cheaper than VPS hosting

Shared Hosting Cons:
- Well, it's heavily shared among many users depends on the hosting company you are with.
- Your neighbor website can affect your website at any given time.
- One bad account can hog up the entire server unless if your hosting provider is smart enough to restrict that from happening ;)
- Emails on shared hosting don't usually work well since a shared IP is being used by many accounts unless if your provider is smart (once again)
- You cannot install your own server side softwares but stick to the ones available on the shared server

On the other hand, VPS Cons:
- Comes with blank shell (SSH) access with no control panel (but you can install your own free/paid panel)
- All resources are yours to use, including Disk, CPU, Bandwidth and RAM, so there are many perfomance factors for you to worry if you have a large site (can also fall into a con)

VPS Pros:
- All resources are dedicated for you and only you, means "no one" is sharing your space on the VPS.
- Your neighbor cannot unfairly affect your perfomance on your VPS
- VPSs comes with root access which allows you to install software you'd prefer.
- A dedicated IP which comes with the VPS is only yours so you can have a clean email reputation by keeping your IPs clean

These are actually very few of them pros and cons, however for VPS there are 3 types on the market KVM, Xen and OpenVZ.
This cons and pros are effective for Xen and KVM VPSs

What details for this point?
I heard that it is possible to do a local hack if using a shared hosting and your neighborhood is a hacker :D

Thanks for the tips!
I want to check how many users are being hosted on my shared hosting. Is it possible?
this helps me to avoid bad hosts that overselling.

On a VPS you definitely have more control than shared, but you will have to take the time to learn on how to configure your server for optimization and security. Try asking the host for a trial account to see how their servers perform with any scripts you have (if you have any already), or simply just look up reviews and see if users experience issues with them.

Most of the unlimited providers are overselling ..so avoid them as no server has unlimited resources, it will have fixed drive space some allocated bandwidth , so I personally would never trust unlimited providers.
