It is possible for a web hosting company to steal your website traffic. What do you think?
I never heard about this before.

How a web hosting company to steal website traffic from websites that putting on their hosting unless they own that website or inserting ads on websites like free hosting companies doing. They could get some traffic from this way.

There is no way to steal your traffic unless they login into your cPanel account, and redirect your domain to their website , which I am sure, 99.9999999% of hosts won't do, and 100 % of the hosts that intend to stay in business would not do

Its not easy to get customers, You have to do lot of work and you can see that many hosting company even pay $100 ~ $150 to get single customer.

So, You think that any provider will do this?

None of provider will get anything from your site, It will be easy for you to trap them and then you will move to other hosting so I don't think any hosting company will do this.

Don't even think about it. Maybe you think that world is bad but not to much bad.

Everything is possible, but morally speaking, almost no one does such things.

The only time i heard something similar, it was a user that bought 1€ year/plan everything unlimited in eBay and the host was collecting is emails and sending SPAM to all his contacts/emails. When he request a explanation from the "host" they redirected all the webtraffic from his account to her "hosting business".
It was a "reputable hosting company" from Bangladesh.

I don't think they can, unless they have access to your cPanel. But the question is why would they do that? I mean yes for traffic of course but why would they bother doing it when it will most likely fail. Lol

Your web hosting provider will certainly has enough access to redirect traffic from your website, but it would certainly be like shooting themselves in the foot.

Its not worth the risk

I don't think any hosting company worth its salt would do this. It's not worth the risk. There are lots of ways to generate, drive or even buy traffic these days.

I never even thought of this as a potential problem. Good Lord--and I am paranoid enough. it would obviously be detrimental to the longevity or existence of their business, and I can't really see how it would be that profitable unless they stole from a whale of an account and then just disappeared.

I have heard that it is theoretically possible, but I have never heard it happening to someone and I don't think companies would do that because it would affect them negatively, there is not much to gain from it. Maybe a company located in a third world country would do something like that but I don't know.
I would not worry about unless you use a terrible web hosting company with terrible support but if that is the case you should probably leave any way.

Well. It's not impossible but why would a hosting company do that? they'll lose all their credit and no one will ever do business with them again. Imagine as if you got your website hosted at Namecheap per se. And they stole your traffic, what do you think will happen after you find out? they'll be ruined and for what? traffic that doesn't benefits them? They could easily generates more income than that traffic can! Also I never heard of this happening but who knows. They might be doing exactly that! so be carefully :rolleyes2:

Why would any web hosting company do this? It would only endanger their reputation and word of mouth could really hurt their ability to get customers. You would have to direct your domain to their site so it would only be done accidently or by design through some deal or another with the hosting site. You would have to be a dunce to participate in such an endeavor.
