Hi,

Why you use Cloud VPS ? Just marketing or you really need it ?
I used cloud hosting but i don't see any different or benefits from this kind of hosting so I am back with VPS hosting.
It has cheaper pricing with better specs.

Hi,

Why you use Cloud VPS ? Just marketing or you really need it ?
It's always the same problem when a provider use the word Cloud... Some providers are providing real Cloud infrastructure, like Google Compute Engine, AWS, OVH, DigitalOcean, Linode or Vultr. But the most part of the other providers are just using Cloud as a marketing keyword to sell their slow servers still running on HDD storage ...
How to identify a Cloud offer ?
- Hourly Billing
- Private network
- Snapshot/replication features
- Load-balancing solutions available
- RAID SSD Storage and extra object-storage solution for backup

If you find a provider with all the previous features, it probably provide true Cloud hosting offers. But if there are less than 2 features, you are just paying more for the word Cloud.

The last things to consider is, do you really need Cloud hosting ? Are you planning to deploy on demand extra servers to scale your infrastructure ? Do you need a private network to setup a secured storage or mysql cluster ?
Cloud servers purpose is to help system administrators to handle traffic Peaks on demand without having to pay for more dedicated servers. It's not an hosting solution for cPanel or Plesk.

The main benefit to true cloud hosting is redundancy.

A "Cloud" setup uses multiple physical servers to run the VM's, distributed storage system on multiple machines, and no single point of failure.

A VPS or hosting account on a Cloud setup and function exactly the same way as a traditional VPS, until something breaks.

With a traditional VPS, if there is a hardware problem with the node, the node has to be taken offline and repaired.
With a Cloud system, the VM can be live migrated to a different physical node, then the problem node taken offline for maintenance without causing any downtime for the site/customer.

We have several private clouds for customers who need that level of high availability/security, but it is not for everyone. It all depends on your needs.

I agree, but almost all good VPS providers are using Cloud Computing platform like Openstack without using the word Cloud, and there are also provider like Scaleway, which is globally a cloud hosting provider by reading their features, but there is no redundancy, not even backup or RAID.
So in my opinion, customers should not look for cloud hosting offers until they really really need it. They should just keep in mind a VPS can be host on a single server or on a cloud hosting platform, but it's pretty hard to verify.
