What will you do if your hosting provider doesn't have a DDos protection service?

Some VPS companies have good hosting features but they didn't have a DDos protection service? What will you do if your sites are hosting with them and getting DDoS attacks? There are 2 options you can go with:
Move to a new host that offering ddos protection service?
Searching for a DDoS solution that can integrate into your current hosting?

What are your suggestions?

Many thanks!

A reliable DDoS protection costs sometimes more, then the whole VPS server. An alternative is to use a 3rd party protection like CloudFlare.

If your hosting provider does not provide network based DDOS protection then all you can do is use software DDOS protection on your server. CSF does a pretty good job with smaller attacks.
As mentioned CloudFlare is also worth consideration.

First it should be determined what kind of ddos attack you are targeted by,for example if its a SlowLoris attack chances are most high-end ddos protections won't work and you will need some apache hardening with iptables rules.

A better option is to move your service to a ddos protected solution rather than seeking remote protection.

Gre tunneling might work too.
