I am planning to create a new blog for promoting web hosting companies on the forum and getting commissions on each sales that sold from my blog. What are the steps to make a blog like that? Which system should I create to easily control affiliate links and content?

1) Get a website (wordpress would do). Make it look nicer by getting a theme from Themeforest

2) Get an affiliate account at Affiliate Window or Get in touch with hosting companies that offer referral schemes etc.

3) Get writing

4) Do SEO, do advertising

5) Cash in

Have I missed anything out?

You missed an important thing, that is how to put affiliate links on the OP's site.

Through a banner ad or inserting links into posts. Which works best?

In addition, How to choose affiliate programs that get the best commissions.

I don't think these things are easy.

Fair point.

Apologies, it's always easy to assume that people know.

So, as Klaus Warzecha has pointed out, there are many methods to affiliatise a blog and make money from it.

Just a little background on myself (away from the Datacentreplus business) I myself used to work in an Affiliate Agency which we dealt with the whole monetisation thing.

There are a few good affiliate networks to get started with. Some you need to sign up with for a small fee which is usually done for the purpose of checking legitimacy.

Affiliate window, Commission Junction (CJ) are just a few of the major players. TBH you won't find that many hosting companies on those, but you will find the likes of godaddy, fast hosts, heart internet in there. You can also join different hosting companies programs independently from these networks, but these large networks are generally the best place to start off with.

You always need a website before you join these as you'll go through a vetting process.

Once you get accepted, you have access to a bank of merchants (that's what we call them), which you (the publisher - what we call bloggers and website owners), need to apply for individually.

Once accepted on those, you will be provided with your unique link, or a tool that allows you to build unique links related to your account. You place those links carefully on your site, and when someone clicks on them and buys something it all gets tracked back using their own analytics system. This system will track and credit you your referrals accordingly.

In terms of what best way of using your link?

Banners don't work that well.
Links in reviews and text work well.
What really works, from what we found was a useful tool for comparing. Something that adds value more than just for the sake of links.

We know that Google has a dislike for affiliate sites. So if your website is full of promotional links or exclusively just links, you won't find yourself ranking well.

As for your original question which I come to understand - I assume that you want to know what is the best way you should build a site to handle an affiliate site that deals with organising these links and products etc.

If you are looking to build a site that compares products against each other, you'll find decent Affiliate specialist themes on themeforest which would help you out on the CMS side of things.

Hope you find this expands better on my original answer.

Exactly! This is making me really confused because I have seen bloggers like using links in reviews than using banner ad on their site although banner ads still works because it easily attract visitors click on a banner if they see it has good offers and fit their requirements.

In my experience, I've seen Banner ads only generate a Click through Rate (CTR) of something in the region of 0.05% It's really low, but you need to serve more to get your worth.

If the affiliate program you join based on how many sales you make for them, than Banner would generate less 'qualified' interest than a link or a tool would. The reasons are simple,

Banners - a lot of people accidentally click on.
Links or links in tools - people click on to find out more (intentional click)

If you want to achieve success treat your affiliate venture as a business. Handle it professionally.

The first thing you should do is write a business plan and set your goals for a specific period of time.

Determine how much you can afford to invest in your new blog.

Buy a domain name and a hosting account, and choose a CMS. I suggest WordPress.

Find a lightweight premium theme with clean code and dedicated support, or hire someone to build you a custom theme, if budget allows.

Don't neglect WordPress security. Educate yourself on this matter and do the basics right, otherwise, attackers will get to you sooner or later.

Write useful and unique content to engage visitors on your blog.

Make yourself present on all the popular social media platforms.

Build a mailing list. (It's a great way to sell products). You will need an autoresponder.

Take care of SEO.

These are just the foundations, but they will kick start your affiliated undertaking.

I am just wondering why you suggested building a custom theme instead of buying an existed from theme marketplace such as templatemonster or themeforest.
Because of building blogs from WordPress then you will have various ways to have a good theme that sharing on sites.

Well, you do not even need affiliate blog atleast to start marketing. all you need to do is to particpate in place like Quora, were people pitche affiliate links as answers.

For earning money, you will earn more than managing your own company, without any capital or investment. Just spend wholeday posting there.

Just copy paste.. Lol trust me it works, All the best.

The tough thing will be trying to rank for those terms - there's a lot of SEO guys out there trying to rank for the hosting related terms because of the great affiliate commissions that are on offer.
