hi,
I have some background in coding (PHP, Visual Basic...), but I've never touched Android development before.

I'd like to get started, but I'm not entirely sure what I need.
I could use some guidance on where to start with Android. Can you help?

There is a great book series that I love called Head First. They teach you programming by example rather then just trying to explain the code, they give you real exercises to try and do. They have one called Head First Android Development: A Brain-Friendly Guide. I have not personally looked at this one, but if its like their other books in the series it will be well worth the money.

Another thing you might look at is something like Phonegap and using Phonegap build. It basically allows you take any web application and interact with things like the compass, gyroscope, etc. It can make some pretty nice applications depending on what you are wanting to create.

I have to check these sources, thanks!
Beside their videos, are there any ebooks to learn writing android apps?
I think ebooks can be a good starting point to go with android programming.
