Hi All,

I bought a $69 server from OVH on 24th March and installed a server through their panel. Their panel looked good and how they had a system to install OS from their panel was impressive.

After centOS OS installation, I tried to access my server through Putty but I was not even able to connect as server gave "Server unexpectedly closed network connection". I tried several times and even after disabling iptables and checked SSH server through their IPMI but nothing changed. I even reinstalled OS but still it was not letting me in.

I created a ticket and kept waiting for their answer, after several hours, I called them and talked to their support and then they started on my ticket. They required MTR from both sides which I provided and without any investigation, they said useless things to start server in rescue and check. It was a simple case of network issues on their end, any network engineer here can also easily tell that their network was at issue because server was responding to SSH from all other regions, only it was not opening to my region.

This carried on through the weekend and on the third day when I had enough as they were just wasting time and asking for useless things, I asked for a refund through a ticket. Their rep Michel talked to me over phone and escalated to billing team. Their billing responded next day with a joke that "Please note we only provide SLA or refunds if the server is unusable due to hardware or network issues that fall outside of our SLA guarantee." Simply negating and refusing to accept network issue on their end and stating that every thing was fine.

69 dollars are nothing and it really does not matter but they way they are black mailing and handling things, I will get a refund. They'll have to pay me. But I wanted to keep any one who's thinking to use them to KEEP AWAY FROM THEM. There are a lot other providers which has very good services even in their price range.

I have never seen any host black mailing on giving refund on the fourth day of payment. Even authorities should block them.

Screen shot of my conversation with them is

Thanks

Hello nancyg,
OVH is a IaaS provider, they do not provide any support and if the host is up and the ping okay, OVH SLA doesn't apply. In this case, that's your job to fix the problem, because I have never get any issues like that in the past 6 years.
It's really bad for you but that's why OVH prices are cheap compared to some other providers. Guides or KnowledgeBase are not up to date, and support is slow or useless (not in case of downtime, I have already received a refund after a network downtime of 3 hours).

May i just ask where are you located, i mean in which country? Because if your country/isp/region is blocked by ovh rules/firewall etc you would receive connection timed out and not Server unexpectedly closed network connection And what OS do you have installed, since as you stated you got:
Server unexpectedly closed network connection
Make sure you have latest version of putty installed in your computer (SSH2) because:
the SSH-1 protocol has many weaknesses and is no longer considered secure; you should use SSH-2 instead if at all possible. All new OS versions uses ssh2
As of 0.68, PuTTY will no longer fall back to SSH-1 if the server doesn't appear to support SSH-2; you must explicitly ask for SSH-1. And check at the bottom in your config file /etc/ssh/sshd_config delete the two last ciphers lines at the end of this config and restart your sshd client service in your dedicated server. More over OVH does not provide any refund if you have installed any OS to your dedicated server.

I've been with OVH for about 6 years now. I have Plesk installed on all my servers, but I do use SSH. OVH doesn't support these issues. But through my experiences, it sounds like a firewall issue. But I could be wrong. But it does sound like an issue I've had a number of times, and most of the time my IP is blocked. An easy way to out rule this is to use a VPN and change you IP and try to access it then. If your successful, then you know it's a firewall issue.

I don't see where what you described makes OVH a scammer, a blackmailer or a fraud. There have been some excellent responses here that you should follow up on. I understand your frustration, but OVH's model is unmanaged.

OVH is very low budget hosting. Everyone aware of the poor support.
