I wanted to know how many of you buy whois protection for the domain names you register. Is Whois protection important?
if my domain registrar is offering a good price for Whois protection, I would like to have it for my domains. It is not important but I like using this service because it protect my personal information.

Depends on the purpose of the domain , however if its a business domain its good that you do not protect the whois
You mean we don't use whois on business domains? If so, why?

Because noone will order anything from shady/hidden details of company, whois of a business need to be public so that everyone if they research to know who is what.

I consider whois protection to be something of no significant importance. I believe if one is serious about business, then why should he hide his real identity?

Most registrars offer free WHOIS protection, if you run a business which sells products or offers services that would make it quite shady that the details of the owner/operator are hidden. Like others mentioed it should be visible for everyone, unless its some sort of blog or personal website.
I'm surprised that some hosting providers hide behind WHOIS protection and still manage to do business, unless they have something shady to hide, it should be public for everyone to see.

I always get the whois protection just because I don't want my personal information out there for anyone to find.

We know that security is very important today because hackers begin active always and they can access your information without your permission. WHOIS help to protect your domain name and hide your personal information. I think when you purchase new domain name then you also buy WHOIS tool.

I protect my domains with whois privacy as it is free for me, and I don't want my address been on a public database.
