Okay I know I can google it to find out what exactly it is but I thought why not ask my fellow members.

So I've done web hosting for sometime now but I never got into "this cloud" thing. So what is this "cloud" how do it work. whats special about it?

Should I jump on this and offer it to my clients. Whats the money like in this area of hosting?

Great questions. Cloud is an advanced virtualization technique in which the Virtual Machines ("Cloud Servers") benefit from additional tolerance to failures within the architecture or infrastructure of the Virtual Environment ("Cloud Data Center", "Cluster").

Formerly, when part of the Virtualization Environment failed, such as server hardware failure or software-related issues, the virtual machine and it's data would be adversely affected, sometimes leading to complete data loss. A primary distinguishing feature of the cloud is the presence of network storage, which is used to store a secondary (or more) set of data, which provides Data Redundancy, in case of disaster.

Whereas the pre-Cloud virtual machine was susceptible to a single point of failure, this model now provides failover in the case of disaster. If the virtual machine is affected or loses data, the Virtual Environment is now capable of retrieving the secondary set of data from the Network Storage to rebuild and replace any data affected in the disaster.

Obviously, these features are preferable to the previous, single point-of-failure virtual environment. As with everything, the added features and benefits of cloud hosting, come with added costs. Whether or not these costs are right for you and your clients depends on a number of factors and cannot be determined.

The best advice I can offer is to evaluate each service requirement uniquely to determine the best hosting solution for that specific use-case. Historically, this methodology has been successful for us and our clients.

Don't be confused by the whole cloud thing it just means fail over protection for your service. For example the RAM fails that's powering your site, another block of RAM automatically replaces it and takes over. The Cloud "buzzword" has been twisted to mean almost everything these days, even online office apps like Microsoft 365 are referred to as cloud.

No, CloudLinux is just a container based resource management system. You also need the underlying cloud hosting platform.

Yes, like LJSHost said, Cloud hosting is only a way to provide virtual servers with high-availability by using servers clustering. But the word "Cloud" doesn't always mean high-availability, make sure your hosting provider is not using this word just to sell more.

Single Dedicated Server=Single Point of Failure. Thus, insufficient for cloud. A pre-requisite to cloud is server virtualization. Sign up for a small VPS server somewhere and you will be able to create a Master-Slave relationship for your dedicated server. Select a hypervisor for your dedicated server and you will be able to create a virtualization environment on your single dedicated server.

Cloud hosting is used to store data online. It is based on cloud computing technology. It allows your data stored on multiple server rather than local server. You can access your data from anywhere and anytime. I am using cloud hosting services.

I speak from customer point of view. I have couple of websites running on shared servers. I have never tried cloud hosting because it is beyond my budget at this moment. However, I have a question, why is cloud hosting more expensive that other hostings?

Maybe the saddest and the most dangerous fact is that everywhere you look on the internet there are numerous sites which recommend almost the same hosting companies. Be warned of popular top lists of hosting companies and always the same hosting advocacy.

The problem is cloud is a very subjective marketing term, and can really mean anything. There are some providers that utilize local storage for example, and call it the cloud. @radwebhosting nailed it on the explanation.
