Hey all!!!

So now is in 2017, is it legal to embed Youtube Videos on your blogs IF you don't own the video or you are NOT using the videos to sell anything?

I mean videos are not mine, will it be considered legal or illegal?

Or, even if you are selling any products but you don't have videos for them, is it okay to have videos on your blog that may be helpful to your customers because it is related to your product?

Or, what if you just think it's a cool video and you wanna embed it?

What do you know about the legalities of this? Please share your thoughts.

Thanks in advance
John

You can embed any video from youtube on your websites, that's why you can get the embed code of a video. An embed video will always link to youtube and to the original poster. That mean you will send traffic to youtube and to the video owner and probably help him to make money ;)

As long the video is embed on your website and you are not claiming rights to the materil(unless its your own videos) there shouldn't be any issues.

There should be no problem on posting Youtube videos on your site provided you've done it properly.
Youtube has an embed feature which allows you to do this. It'll attribute the video correctly this way.

If you downloaded the video off Youtube then uploaded it on your site without any association of the original source or Youtube however is an issue... don't do this.

I think it's alright as long as you don't claim it's yours and if it's a promotional material of something you're selling. Then I don't think you're hurting the owners of the product's sales?

Does your site supports videos, much so youtube videos. If so you can link the post the videos with their youtube link. I don't know about lifting the videos and posting without referencing youtube. Be sure to read their terms and conditions.

Embeding someone else's Video is just fine. You won't get any DMCA for this reason. If you choose to download Youtube video and make your own copy of it and upload on youtube. That would be called as stealing. And they may take it off. In your case you're just using the content to host on your blog or any other place. That would be called sharing. And it is not violating any law and no DMCA or any action needed on your part. WordPress type CMS support embedding so you can use it.

Embedding youtube videos ion your website is not illegal, in fact google encourages to embed media. However, downloading video from youtube and then uploading on your site will of course be termed illegal. Youtube videos are CC, which means they can be used commercially by anyone. This standard youtube license means you can use youtube video in any way you want.

Of course its very legal. Youtube ranks No.2 after google on Alexa ranking 2017. And this is primarily because of the myriad backlinks created. When you embed the link on your website, you are just adding to the now 2.4 million sites linking to youtube. Which is a plus for them since it keeps them at No. 2 overall. And also increase the traffic to the site, and so is the revenue.

This is quite rigid as the big question of "Are you making money off it" should be asked. In most cases, you should read the terms and conditions. In cases where it was not stated there, it's best you give credit/reference after posting, that's very pardonable in intellectual property, especially if you're not making money off it

I would check with YouTube and the owner of the content. Just last night I was watching a movie on YouTube that has been on their website, for the past month. I did not finish watching it last night. When I clicked to watch it, in the morning it had been removed for copyright infringement.

Using YouTube videos is a legal issue. The law changes all the time and it's hard to track the changes. Also, note the content may be on YouTube illegally and the person may not have complained to YouTube yet.

To be safe, I would recommend that you get written permission to use the content from the legal owner.

I don't see any issues with doing this. Also presumably the owner of the video would make it private if they didn't want it being shared?

You will need to go through the terms and conditions, without that please do not embed them. Because there are various rules for embedding. If there is copyright for certain video then you should not embed that.

If there is any video which you would like to embed on your website, go through the all rules or you can contact the creator of video for the rules.

That's true. My last post basically took this for granted, that someone wouldn't be embedding videos which were in violation of copyright. YouTube does a good job of keeping copyright infringements at bay automatically anyhow whether automatically or manually.

I have been to a lot of websites and I can see embedded video from YouTube. So, I think it's pretty fine or maybe check YouTube's privacy and policy with regards to this matter.

I agree with all of the comments before me. Better check the contents of the video you wish to share and then you have to really take time to read their terms and conditions since you would be needing to know all of this information. Besides, its your job to know what you will post on your website. Embedding is perfectly fine and youtube has put a link as well. Youtube is for sharing and that's how they earn profit as well.

There are laws that protect the piracy even in Youtube. Just a simple rule, if the video is not yours and you embed it without asking a permission from the owner, you violate the law. It is better to read the rules and regulations first so that you will be safe in all circumstances. Somehow, you have a peace of mind regarding that matter.

You should be aware of practical issues when embedding other's Youtube videos because clearly it is against copywrite laws. You may want to check their video description if they allow it or better yet ask for their permission.

I believe yes, but you have to be mindful of their Terms of Service and Copyrights. Perhaps you need to credit them. It may be just mentioning them withing your blog or there is a proper way of citing them.

Adding videos to your blogs will indeed make it more interesting and your readers will definitely be engaged in the interest your blog speaks about. There are a lot of other ways on adding substantial ornaments to your blogs other than videos. Just be mindful of copyrights. :)
