What are your thoughts about 10 mbps, it should be considered as a fast internet? What should your home internet speed be?

Well this all depends on which country you live, since 10mbps its not considered as fast internet nowadays.

1MB you get 8mbps, and 10MB you get 80mbps, more:
Mbps (symbol Mbit/s or Mb/s): Megabit per second
MBps: Megabyte per second
8 bits = 1 byte
1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits per second
1 MBps = 1,000,000 bytes per second = 8,000,000 bits per second = 8 Mbps

As others have said, it depends on your country of residents.

For example myself in the UK receive internet speeds of 30-40Mbps, which is average for my location. However, fibre internet lines can allow up to 80Mbps download speed in the UK in certain areas.

Despite this, our internet speed is considered as a joke by many Americans and Norwegians with internet speeds of 200-700Mbps on average respectively.

Korea is king for bandwidth, average is 800mbps going up to 1k plus. They are so far ahead of the rest of the world.

Romania, Netherlands and other European mainland countries have pretty good home connections, with 1Gbps not being that uncommon.

Are you not able to get Google Fibre in the UK? And also I'd probably say the average speed is around 1Gbps ;) don't forget that majority of providers are here.

I assume you were reply to me? I'm pretty sure we have Google Fiber but it's expensive and for the average UK Broadhband user they are happy with anything above 20Mbps for £25 per month.

Also, I was making the estimates based on what people have told me on Twitter about their internet speed ofer the last couple of years.

BT Fiber 100Mpbs here and I barely get 30-70Mpbs on a good day, downloading anything outside the UK will be heavly throttled. Lets not forget that British telecoms definition of optic fiber runs partialy through copper wires. It really depends upon the country and the optic fiber infrastructure.

20Mbps barely cuts it for me, maybe for very small sites, we got two servers with 1 Gbps unmetered, no complains, but i guess at certain point will upload one to 10 Gbps for faster bandwidth, so it all depends on your application !...

The maximum internet speed that I get here in my home country is 3.1 mbps. Compared to my current internet speed, 10 mbps is obviously fastest internet. I have noticed how fast is my connection works in the full speed (3.1 mbps), if it worked on 10 mbps, I canot imagine how fast it would be

In my country the speed is anywhere from 2MBps to 30MBPS. I personally get 500kbps through mobile and 1Mbps on my desktop. So I think the speed is good enough. Some places in our world are yet to reach even the 128kbps. And for them that is the fastest connection. But with 4G and broadband technologies improved, you can see that more and more people getting better speed in near future.

10 Mbps is good enough for most browsing, not so much for HD streaming. But I lived many years on such speed in ADSL times and it was comfy enough as long as the connection was stable. Now 100 Mbps is the standard here.

It depends on your location, in some countries 10mbps is not so much but in the other countries, it is a lot but I am sure that 10mbps is enough for browsing the web and playing computer games, as long as you don't need to download huge times very often this speed shouldn't be a problem.

It depends on what country you are to. I am from the Philippines and the average data browsing speed is 3-4 MBps. Yes, you heard me. 10 MBps in the PH is fast! I would love to have that kind of speed specially for downloading and playing online games. however, 10Mbps to countries like US. It is slow because some companies offer 20+ MBps plan with an appropriate monthly cost.

It really depends on what country you're in right now. Probably 10mbps is fast enough but the maximum mbps here in our country is at least 30. The mbps I currently have right now is 3mbps although it's a little bit low but I can play online games for 5 hours straight how much more can I play if I had a 10mbps. For me I think it's fast enough.

It really depends on what country you're in And what you plan to use that speed for, additional the 10mb speed shouldn't really be your focus point I would suggest looking at the latancy and how many hops does it take you to get to an external site located in different continents

It really depends on how many are using the Internet and what you're doing with it (I am not that tech savvy but I have read a few articles about the speed getting compromised when there are many people using the same internet connection/wifi or whatever you call it). But in the Philippines, where I am staying, 5 mbps is okay for us. We just browse and watch YouTube anyway.

Wow. Thank you for the information. I got confused while reading this thread. Now i know the difference between mbps and MBps! Honestly, I thought they were the same.

I wish we also have 30-40 mbps average speed here in our country. Because I think, the average here is just 10.

Korea is king for bandwidth, average is 800mbps going up to 1k plus. They are so far ahead of the rest of the world.
That's one of the reason why i want to live in Korea. I can't imagine how fast that would be. No stress buffering. I wish we also have that fast connection in our country.

I'm from ph as well and yeah, 10mbps is quite fast here. As long as no lagging on Dota2 then i'm good. Having 10mbps here were considered the lucky ones. Because as far as i know, it's limited. There's a specific number of household who can avail that here in my location.

Base on my tester here, OOKLA speedtest, installed in an android motorola tab, I got an average of 5.59 Mbps Download and 0.65 Mbps. I'm in the Philippines, compared to the results recorded here, this tablet had been used in Ireland where it came from and the lowest speed test result is 20.82 Mbps Download and 3.09 Mbps Upload. Just imagine the difference. 10 mbps, well yeah it's fast.

It depends on the situation.

For me, if your internet server is far from your place, even if you have fast internet, then it will be slow and you will be experiencing slow service. First, check your place, change of weather can also affect your internet connection.
