What is the hardest part of building a new website?

2 things I've found hardest when building a site.
1 - finding a domain I actually want to use - I end up spending aggesssss for that.
If you go with .com it is difficult to get what you wanted but nowadays you have many choices if you go with another domain extension.

2 - Keeping up with maintaining the site or getting people involved.
I must have a fair amount of domains and websites by now myself (outside of my work at DCP), and I always find those the two biggest problems.
What type of maintaining are you talking about?
Maintaining web system or content?

The hardest part for me is design when building the site. What I usually do to make it easier is open Mac Preview or grab a sheet of paper and map out what I want the site to look like. It helps a ton especially when choosing the theme. :)

When starting a company, the hardest part for me is choosing the name, domain, etc.
There are many great themes on themeforest, why don't you choose one there but you design a website from scratch?
Buying an existed theme will save time for other works. I usually buy themes there.

The most time consuming is formulating a plan, but the most difficult part of the entire process is coming up with an excellent domain name. It seems I can spend two days trying every possible variation of the name I want before I chance upon a name that's acceptable - unless of course, the domain is the name of the company, and that name is unique.

For me the hardest part is to create a new template or something I really like. The rest is not too hard.

I had same problem with you when choosing a new domain, normally I spent 2 to 3 days to choose a domain name but if you have an idea to build your website first, then you can easily choose a domain accordingly.

I am sure you don't know html and css which can be easy to use to build a website template.
Unless it is a dynamic template which required more codes then it will be more difficult than normal html templates.

I don't usually plan things. For me, choosing the name (and domain name), reaching potential customers/visitors and keeping quality content on the website are the most crucial and hardest parts.

Developing/choosing a theme, thinking of design, legal side etc are not really that hard.

How long does it take for you to choose a domain name?
Normally I used to have at least 3 days to find a new domain but sometimes I can buy a new domain immediately if I have an idea for it and it is still available to buy.

Why you think it is not really hard when choosing a web template?

Why you think it is not really hard when choosing a web template?
I usually look through many templates (usually WordPress), but the ones that look good and come with decent feature sets, I immediately remember, so in the end, it's like choosing one template out of five which is not difficult. Instincts usually lead me to right templates :ertery:

It depends mostly on what the project is that I'm doing. In most cases, it takes a few days to think of a good domain, and after I've found a fantastic name,... it has been taken by someone else already... Anyway, it depends really - usually a few days, but sometimes it takes multiple moths and multiple people to first find some good names and then vote which is the best.

And would someone tell me how to add multiple quotes in a reply (can be via PM)? I'm kinda new in this forum...

In my opinion, the hardest part is the HTML and CSS, not because I am bad at coding with them, but just because I never really know where to start or how to design it, specially the latter. Thinking about making a unique design is sometimes annoying (well at least for me) when you have already done so many designs. Sometimes it would feel like you are messing up with your client because you might sometimes think that you have used their design on another website. :p

Have you tried read a book, an ebook online or online training courses for programmers?
There are many courses there and they will teach you how to start and how to design a website template from HTML, CSS, it is not too difficult with these programming language.

When you know how to design a web template then you will know how to create layouts, designs that no like others. So, no worries about that.

I currently am learning how to code via codecademy. Yes I agree with you. I know that I will be able to do this when the time comes. It's just a matter of effort and patience. :)

Thank you for the kind words. I will definitely keep these in mind! Cheers.

There are many things you can use to build your website, Tech is growing wildly everyday, That there are many ways to build your website without any problems, But I think that the hardest part of building a new website is the traffic on your site, Gaining visitors / traffic on your website isn't that easy..you website should be interesting and contains meaningful topics and posts..and Do not spam them..That's why I think gaining traffic / Visitors is the hardest thing in building your own website.

Website design is now so easy with many providers offering ready made templates. The challenge would then be ensuring the website is secured and the general maintenance.

Like a lot of people have already said, I think the hardest thing is actually trying to get traffic, and keep traffic coming. Its great to have an amazing looking website, but if nobody finds it, then its pretty much useless.

uhmmm... a good design always get my attention, also a comfy platform, something easy to move in.
A very important step... how much are you willing to invest? making a killer website can be expensive.
And the main part: content! like, make a map site, keep an order, don't make an image album with nothing more interesting.

This should be done from your hosting provider side. But if you use an unmanaged server then of course is you will need to care about before some problems can happen :)

very interesting question!

i think the hard part it's seo and grow visitor not create a new site.
If you don't have a website and doing good things for it then how SEO will come :violent:

I agree with you but I don't agree about how much you will invest into your website, that's not really important if you do right things for your website then it still can grow without spending more money.
Even you can spend more money into your website but it still can be failed, that happens regularly for many website owners.

True... considering the profit your website will develop, a good investment is required.
And the failing part of course, nothing is 100% guaranteed.
Just taking the economics in consideration... a proper investment is not necessarily the excessive one

If I build all web-related things my own, the hardest thing would be developing the features/web-applications. But if you want to create a website just for posting content, you can buy a template along its features that match to the services you would like to offer to your visitors/users.

In choosing a web hosting, you should get the one that meets your hosting needs. If it's a new site with little traffic, you can start by a shared hosting. You can upgrade the hosting plan in the future if you need to. About the content, it depends on your purpose. If it's for SEO purpose, then it would be the hardest part as SEO is never ending competition. But if you have the budget for advertising your content, then any content would be OK, as long as it pitches what you offer to the target visitors.
