I saw some providers only use single HDD in their VPS plans. I want to know the experience from buyers and providers here, Which one do you prefer. why? SSD or HDD raid 10 is better?

SSD are always better, even with RAID 10, HDD will not have the same IOPS and it will impact the VPS performance, especially for web hosting.

Those providers for sure like to run a "risky business", not just cause of backups since raid is not a true form of backup but the possibility of downtimes due to disk failure, while with Raid protected storage the faulty drive gets replace without unnecessary downtimes.

SSD or HDD raid 10 is better?
SSD all the way, not just performance wise but the lifetime is superior, there is no spinning parts at high RPM, therefore the chances of mechanical failure are non existent.

My advice would be to stay away from such providers if you value your data, unless you have synced and up2date backup with you at any given moment.

SSD are way superior than SATA and when SSD are configured with RAID they tend to offer more superior performance.. Below you may find the comparison in my opinion:

RAID10 SSD > RAID1 SSD > SSD = RAID10 SATA > RAID1 SATA > SATA (without RAID)

Here > stands for greater than symbol.

Don't buy VPS from provider running single HDD or SSD.

SSD is always better but you need to make sure that provider is not using 1 SSD :).

Selection of SSD over HDD depends on the choice of the webmaster and the needs of the website. If one wants storage capacity with economical pricing, then one can sign up for HDD. But if one needs faster performance and storage volume is not a priority then SSD can be used which is more premium as compared to HDD.

No matter what's the RAID or what configuration you're on when it comes to speed and performance if you can spend a few bucks extra. Also ssd is more advanced and secure and less chances of data curroption
