Hi guys and gals!

I have been all over the web trying to figure out why I cannot access my website from inside my network. I can access it from an outside network. I am hosting my website using an IIS server inside my home network. I don't want to have join all of my devices to a domain. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Are you accessing it from inside using the domain name ?
If you can access it from an external network that means everything should be fine with the server/networking setup.

This could be lots of things you just need to start eliminating them. I would start with connectivity from your internal network to the IIS server, check firewall rules etc. Local hosts files with the wrong entry for the server, perhaps try adding to the hosts file see if that works so you can eliminate and DNS issues. Could even be some config in IIS for non public IP's.

Sounds dumb but you did try a browser cache flush.

I do feel for you this is one of those WTF problems.

It could be a firewall issue. AT control panel/firewall....
Advanced settings >> Inbound Rules >> World Wide Web Services - Enable it All or (Domain, Private, Public) as needed.

I can't see your IIS configuration so consider this....

There are two ways to access your website from inside your network. One is on from the local machine, the second from another pc on your network. To do this you may need two bindings

For local:
Type: http
Ip Address: All Unassigned
Port: 80
Host name: samplesite.local

For another machine on LAN
Type: http
Ip Address: <Network address of the hosting machine ex. 192.168.0.10>
Port: 80
Host name: <Leave it blank>

If you want to use a name instead of IP address at a machine on the LAN create entry in that machine's hosts file

I already setup an Inbound Rule to allow incoming traffic through port 80.

I am hosting multiple sites so I cannot leave the host name for each site's binding blank.

Is there a way to get this working without having to edit each machine's host file? I need to be able to access these websites from mobile devices as well.

I use the domain name and the browser says that it cannot connect. I use the public ip and I get the same thing. When I use the local ip I get my server page "Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Access page."

I added the server ip and host name to my host file and I can access my website just fine. I don't want to have to do that to all of my devices inside my network. Also, I am hosting multiple websites and I have the same issue with all of them. I added the sever ip and all of the host names to my host file and I can access all of my websites just fine.

You can if you use a different IP address for each site. Otherwise create a host header for each site using the same IP

Of course. Its called DNS.

Here's an update:

I created the same setup at my house where I use a comcast modem and an asus router. I setup IIS on my Windows 7 machine, added the website directories, and created the bindings. I changed the public IP for the A Records in my domain account. It works fine. I can access the website from inside and outside the network.

The current setup, which it at my brother's house, is using an AT&T modem/router in one. This either has to be a modem/router issue or an ISP issue. It may be an ISP issue because I opened the same ports on both routers.

An easy fix would be to just host the websites from my place, however, I am only getting 12Mbps up and 1Mbps down. My brother, on the other hand is getting 100Mbps up and 100Mbps down. I'm paying a very low rate for my service and I don't really want to upgrade because I'll end up paying 7 times what I'm paying now.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be on the ISP side?

Your original post concerned accessing web sites on the local LAN. Your ISP would have noting to do with that. If the issue is now accessing web site from outside of the LAN make sure you have port forwarding enabled and configured on the ATT router. You may also want to confirm that ATT AUP allows you to run a public web server on the home network.
