Hello All,

I want to limit the maximum size of the mailboxes created in the server to 1 GB. The limit should be applied to all users by default and the cpanel user cannot assign quota more than the maximum mailbox size limit. For example, the cpanel account can create user with 500 MB but cannot create an user with more than 1 GB. At the moment, the default mailbox size is set to 1 GB but can be overwritten. Any idea how to limit the mailbox size so that nobody can override the limit?

cPanel uses the disk space to store mail data thus you need to limit your mail quote smaller than disk space that you allowed an user uses.
thus they didn't have this option in adding a new package

What do you mean?

It is not logical if mail data is stored on your disk space, for example you can create an user with 1GB disk space and you have 10 email accounts, how you can set each email with 1Gb disk quota and using exceed that? unless mail data is stored on external disk. If no, you need to calculate how many MBs for each email account to use on cPanel accounts.

We are selling unlimited hosting plans and our AUP states there are limits on the maximum size of the mailboxes. However, the cpanel owners can easily override the limits for individual email accounts. It becomes difficult to monitor the individual accounts. The same problem is faced with many hosting companies who sell unlimited plans and put limits on mailbox size. Any solution would be appreciated.

I dont think there is a way to do that, because while creating the account you already have given unlimited diskspace to that account. So it is upto the website owner to choose and you will not be in control of the mailbox size.

I have a question and that is when you are offering unlimited space then why restricting the mailbox size.

Hello,
Well we also use the Cpanel and email quota is working properly.
Though , if you guys are facing the issues like above you may contact cpanel support for the same.

Hello Nitaish,

I'm afraid this isn't a feature provided by CPanel, you can limit storage but not mailbox size. Customers are allowed to define quotas themselves, but they are outside of your control.

I know that you were hoping for better news, but I sadly don't have any. However, you can always suggest a CPanel/WHM Feature and hopefully it'll be possible in a future release.

I hope you understand.

Best Regards,
Kieran Cairns
