I am planning to install WHMCS and wondering if I can install it into a suddomainn like billing.example.com or example.com/billing?
I am running CentOS 6 with cPanel.
I think there are some advantages of subdomain as I can run a different PHP version or using main domain for other purposes
Any tips or guides are welcome?
Thanks

Hi hostingcoupons,

WHMCS is just a PHP application with a database.

It's common to use both billing.example.com or example.com/billing. I would say billing.example.com would be best to use if WHMCS is on it's own server, if not just go with example.com/billing.

Well you can surely run WHMCS with a subdomain and that is actually a best practice however for installing the SSL you will have to get a wild card SSL or a multi domain SSL to secure the subdomain which costs a bit more than the basic SSL you get a for a domain.

Once you assign WHMCS to a sub domain you will need to get WHMCS to re-issue the licence this is there standard practice.
So when you set up the domain with SSL (Depends on the SSL) you re-issue your licence then you login to WHMCS via the sub domian and your all good to go.

During the installation WHMCS will give you an option to create a directory to install it in. however as @Hostyournet-DR stated if you move WHMC to a sub domain you will need to purchase a new licence!

If you are really unsure or find it complicated always worth giving WHMCS a shout and they will help you in more depth!

Best of Luck!!

@keenweb. "WHMC to a sub domain you will need to purchase a new licence!"
^^ this is not true you just got to re-issue the licence and then sign in under the subdomain :).

Hello

I like having WHMCS in a subdomain for a simple reason. If you include it in your corporate website, in the htaccess you can have redirects that negatively affect WHMCS.

Also If you have it ona subdomain your can keep it outside of Public-html area which allows you to secure it ever more as its not easily accessible.
