It is never late to learn new things which we don't know, there are many new providers offering VPS at very low rates from $1 to $3 per month which are too good for testing and learning purpose. Once you get confidence choose reliable provider and get VPS from them to move your live site unless you have any issue with your current shared hosting provider as reliable VPS provider might be little costlier then shared hosting.
