I feel really shy asking this. But I want to host a eCommerce website using open source software such as PrestaShop or Magento
I will use Linux for my hosting as its pricing is good and having more support on this OS
Do I have to know programming? If so what language? Any resources to learn besides Youtube?

Thanks

No you do not need to know programming to host a site, but you do need programming knowledge to develop the site depending on what back end solution you are using.
PrestaShop and Magento should do what you need without any programming involved but if you are looking at heavy customization then yes a knowledge of PHP CSS and HTML will be needed.

Hosting and Web application development are two very different things.

If you find a host that uses Softaculous or another software installer then it is really easy to set up either of those ecommerce sites. You would then just have to be able to follow documentation for the specific software. I guess even if there isn't a software installer you don't need to know programming per se, to install and use these.

I didn't look for tutorials, you can search for them.
I'm not fan of video tutorials (they can be boring), so you can find written version and go with your on speed.
My suggestion, don't allow search engines look for you site (you probably know that) until you finish with setup and configuration websites.

here is some tutorial tutorial for prestashop
tutorial for magento

or search other tutorials and how to...

Good luck

If you're going to be using PrestaShop, Magento or another similar software then you won't need to know programming unless you are looking for some modifications outside the script's normal setup and use.

It does help to know some programming though and if you have the time you might want to read some threads in our design and development sections of the forum.

Here's a link: https://forumweb.hosting/20-web-design-amp-development

If you have any questions the go ahead and post a thread and some of our fine members will help you find what you are looking for.

No, you do not need to know programming. It definitely makes things easier knowing at least come basic code, but is not a requirement for hosting web sites. I know plenty of individuals who have very basic knowledge of programming who successfully run their own hosting businesses. However, I would recommend learning as much as you can about both, just in case you hire anyone who does programming for you. It makes it much easier to converse with them about projects and such, and they'll probably respect you quite a bit more as an employer. Plus, if you need a quick fix for something, it's much easier and cheaper to do things yourself than having to hire outside help.

With namecheap, you don't need to know a programming language it is fairly straight forward. You'll have to watch one or two tutorials and read the FAQ on their website as well.

You can deploy a store with minimal programming language knowledge. There are lots of beginner friendly platforms which you can choose from that uses drag and drop or WYSIWYG shop builders that are pretty much easy to use. But if you're planning on focusing on customization rather than easy deployment. Then yes, you do need some programming knowledge. There are lots of sites in Google for you to check.

If you're going to use a platform like PrestaShop or Magento, you don't need to know programming. You can set up the entire website using a template, and do other things like creating the pages, adding products, payment methods etc. using the web interface.

But having a bit of programming knowledge will be an added benefit as it'll be easier to fix or identify any issues you might come across. You'll also be able to customize the website a bit more.

If you are using eCommerce applications then there is no need to have knowledge of programming. There will be automated installation and all other things are manual. If you need updating any CSS file or built in templates then you will need the knowledge of it.

It will be beneficial to have the knowledge of programming skills.

In my opinion one does not need to know programming but it is highly recommended to at least learn the basics of web design. Why I say this is because if you're an independent web owner and you have technical issues, it would sure come in handy to have the ability to look over the source code and make the corrections. All one needs is a basic understanding of HTML as well as CSS which can both be learned off of YouTube If so desired. I hope I helped out with you your thinking on this subject.

I started my first website with zero knowledge about programming, coding and whatsoever. We all start somewhere. There are many beginner friendly tools like a site builder or WordPress etc. that can really help you get going with zero knowledge.

When I launched my WordPress blog, I did not have any knowledge on programming. My blog has been running successfully since two years. Even when I launched an ecommerce site, I had no knowledge on programing. Programing is not necessary to manage and operate a website of any kind, However, if you want to customize your website, you need programing skills. Withour any knowledge on programing, your website will have a basic design. I have not tried yet, but I hear Udemy is a good place to learn online. You can take courses on any subjects in Udemy.

No. You dont need to know programming to host a website. But for me, you need to have knowledge about programming so you can manage the website well.

Prestashop and magenta is easy to use, you just need to drag and drop stuffs you want to put on your website. So programming is not necessary. But presta and magenta has fix design and you will only choose from them. If you want to have more complex design you need to use html and css or even javascript, so you need to learn programming.

Not really if your Hosting Company has softaculous then all you have to do is install the software you should not need to know about html but you may need a little css in order to fully customize it. If your web hosting company is good they should help you out with that.

Not necessarily but it will definitely help you in improving your site. If you will use 100% ready made software, you are really bound to the services offered. There are instances that you may want some features customized for your own needs, this is where knowledge in programming helps. You can create your own features and tweaks for your site, this helps your progress and efficiency. Also this will cut some cost for your site, but of course you will have to spend time and effort to it.

I find myself agreeing with nearly all of the responses so far. Programming knowledge would certainly be helpful, but not necessary to create and host all sort of websites. When in doubt, there's very little you won't be able to find a video tutorial on it.
