From what I know .com or .net are preferred by most people. .org is usually good for charity sites or sites trying to draw attention to an important event, tragedy or disaster. If you're in the business of fund raising for animal or child related charities, .org would be great. If your business is not charity or fundraising related, then I suggest you go with a .com. Or a .net if you can't afford a .com.

dot org extension is an extension for an organizational website. I think it is okay to use it whats important is your content will be published and the website would be accessible over the internet . If you are trying to advertise or to sell anything use .com extension rather than .org and if the domain has been taken try to add some words that best describes the goal of your website. The domain .org is the original top level domains with com, us and etc. It was originally intended for non profit organization.

Hi! .org is a good domain extension but deciding on what extension to use purely depends on whether what kind of website you are planning to make. As said by the other members, .org is a top level domain which is primarily use for organization. Other domains that have their specific purpose includes .edu, .gov., .mil., etc. I you are planning to make a non-profit organization website, then .org would be a great choice of extension.

Used to be the dot com is the goto extension for a domain name. This is no longer true. Used to be people automatically assumed that a domain name ends with dot com. This, too, is no longer true.

We have country-specific extensions like dot us, dot co dot uk, etc. People also use bookmarks for sites which they visit regularly. So the extension doesn't make much difference any more. What really makes a difference is the content of the site. Is it something which people will want to share with their friends? That's the acid test. If your site has got content which your visitors want to share with their friends, then you are on the right path.

So, to answer the question, use the dot org extension if that's all you can get. Then work on the content of your site. Content is king. Has been, still is and always will be.

Theoretically speaking, domain extension does not matter for SEO. Whether your domain is .xyz or .com, as along as you have valuable contents, good site design, good bacnlinks and many other SEO stretegies, your website will be exqually treated by search engines. Generally speaking, .org were reserved for organizations and for not profit websites, however, these days eveyone uses .org domains. There is no special specification for using .org. The only domain extensions that specification is .edu and .gov.

As per previous replies, .org is the extension which is basically used for the non-profitable organizations. If you have aim to build such website then you can have the .org extension.

It will ot affect the SEO rank as long as your website is powerful that is your website should be very user friendly, attractive. It should have the proper domain name which is easy to remember and will clarify the purpose of your website. The contents on your website should be unique and well represented so visitors can stay for more time on your website. So it is not matter of extension, it is matter of your website that how you represent it.

It depends on what type of organization or company the domain will represent. The .org is usually associated with open programs, political parties, and non- profit organizations. However, choosing .org won't have any issues with credibility as this is also the one with the most recognizable and popular domain extensions.

Hi! In my own personal opinion, if your website is an organization, you may go and choose .org. But if not it does not make that much of a sense. If you're doing a website say for affiliation of teachers, students or theological institution, go with ".ORG". But if it is a store or you're selling something, it just don't add up.

.Org is good domain extension for nonprofits, personal sites, open-source projects and non-commercial entities.
The .org can be used for schools, open-source projects, and communities also to some for-profit entities.
.Org is also a good domain because it was the first open generic top-level domain and the largest registry overall that has signed its DNS zone with Domain Name System Security Extensions.
In simpler terms, the .Org has a Internet security protocols securing certain kinds of information provided by a DNS as used on IP networks.
So I concluded that .Org is really a good domain extension for your website. :)

Does using .ORG for any domain names is good for a website? today I check a domain and it is taken and I am moving to another way by applying for the .ORG as an alternative. What are your thoughts?
The top level domain (TLD) . ORG is usually associated with organizations, specifically non-profit organizations, as mentioned several times above. That being said, if your website is for an organization, then that is the best TLD to use.
However, there are new TLDs that might best suit your website. New Top Level Domains have more than three letters, such as the one used by this forum which is . hosting. Check out the domain name registrant for other domains that will best suit your site.

If you can tell me about the site, I might be able to suggest some.
