I used these hosting providers in the past, you can host your websites on their shared hosting (Hostgator) and VPS (Arvixe), they are decent ones but if you want your websites load faster, you should choose VPS companies as RAmnode, Vultr or Digitalocean. Websites on Arvixe load pretty slow and the support is not professional.

As RDO Servers and energizedit said they are EIG (Endurance International Group), which means "stay away from them".

Why you don't check some offers from this forum.

I used HostGator about 6 years ago and never had any problems, not sure how the service is now as EIG has picked up a lot more hosting companies since then so you'd just have to see for yourself.

Speaking from personal experience with E.I.G. hosting companies, you will want to avoid them at all costs! Just check their complaints at the better business bureau and those are only a very, very small fraction of the people that have had problems with them, myself included.

They tried to pull scams on me, held my data/sites hostage, had the very worst service and support, the worst of basically all aspects a business could have/be.

Avoid them unless you think that this is something that you would like to find yourself doing:

It's best to avoid both of those hosts, and look for a reputable one. Search for reviews before choosing a host.

As stated by others, these web hosts are owned by E.I.G. and I would highly suggest not going with any web hosting company that is owned by E.I.G. unless you want to risk dealing with nothing but problems and bad support.

I was using HostGator years ago before E.I.G. bought them and they were pretty good for my needs at the time. I tried them out this last year for a project and had noting but problems and dealing with support that didn't know anything that they should know. Now since E.I.G. bought them their service and support has gotten really bad. At times they are ok but to me it's not worth it.

You can Google something like EIG owned companies or EIG hosting company list and there are some sites that have lists of all of them. Avoid any on those lists. You can also check the better business bureau website and see that they have tons of complaints filed against them.

I would find one that's not owned by E.I.G..

If you are looking for a web hosting service then we have many good hosts listed here on the site that you should check into.

Hostgator used to be great pre EIG takeover, so was Arvixe. Now, with the take over of EIG they have been in the process of consolidating everything into their DC in Provo, Utah. Along with consolidating their support departments. On that basis alone, both of these companies are literally one in the same at this point.

What type of website are you looking to have hosted?

Thanks I will remember your advice, to be honest I saw their ads everywhere on websites, they used banner ads with good offers and that attracted me to ask this question, I have not used their hosting services yet but from what you said, I would avoid using services from these hosting companies.

I have experience on shared and VPS and using them for my websites, sometimes I need to find new alternatives to my current hostings.
Just curious who is E.I.G and why they have more money like that and bought big hosting companies on the internet.

You are quite welcome. I just hate seeing anybody have to go through what I had to go through.

You definitely want to stay away from them. You can do a Google search for EIG hosting companies and add a search word like scam, bad, horrible or any other bad words and you'll see how bad they can be.

They're just a large parent company that follows the usual corporate structure. Even in this day, many people don't realize many of the companies they deal with for entertainment, food, clothing, vehicles, are all owned by larger companies, or multiple smaller companies along the chain.

EIG hosts are mostly used by those new to web hosting industry and do not know any better. Those with experience will know of the better providers around (usually small-medium providers who are active on forums like forumweb.hosting).

I don't see the point using EIG hosts if you know of better non-EIG hosts.

Wow, the first couple of posts in this thread actually recommend (or like?) Hostgator and Arvixe? What kind of a hosting forum would this be if we start actually recommending or liking EIG? :D

Depending how long you've been in the industry, almost all the companies under EIG were great...years ago...before they were bought. I used HG about 8 or 9 years ago, and back then everything was smooth sailing. Even the owner would frequent forums to help out where he could. Same with Arvixe. Once HG really started pushing their name, support took longer and the service started falling. All a part of growing pains. I left around those days. A few years later they were bought by EIG.

Hi Nick, That can be for many reasons. First one being that if you haven't used them before then you might not know the type of service and quality of those that actually come with being a customer of theirs. Another reason could be that those hosts advertise a lot and are listed high in many of the hosting review sites but those high rating are most often based on the amount of their affiliate earnings.

People might not have seen any of the bad and truthful information on these hosts so they don't know what they would be in for as a customer. I can say that with any service there is bound to be both good and bad reviews and information out there.

The trick is being able to find out the dark side to these hosts before you become a victim of their practices.

Unfortunately as folks have stated both are EIG owned web hosts and have poor support after EIG acquired them. If you did google search you might have come across good reviews BEFORE they were acquired by EIG !

I evaluate alot of web hosts as I consult for clients as well to recommend the best web hosts for their needs and only way to be able to properly recommend them is to actually use them first :)

My advice is don't jump into deep end first with a live site migration to a new web host. You can make copy or clone your live site to the new web host and preview and test your site on new web host privately first. Test their tech support levels etc and then decide if you're comfortable doing the live more to the new web host. Reviews by other folks are nice and all, but nothing beats first hand experience yourself ;)

Unfortunately there are still good reviews for them after they were acquired by EIG and they continue to show up. However most of these reviews are sparked by their desire to earn from their affiliate programs. There is also paid review by the hosts owned by EIG themselves. I was contacted by an EIG hosting company to do a paid review of their services on two different occasions. Needless to say I didn't want to put my stamp of approval on their services.

This is very good advice and I give the same advice myself. This is especially important to consider before you buy into a 2-3 year hosting plan only to find out that you wasted your money after the refund period is up.

It's true that many reviews (legitimate ones) were still coming after the sale. Once the company was sold, it still takes time for the paperwork to go through, then for the management (or layoff/firing) of staff, then for the migrations of all customers to the EIG data centre, and then taking care of leased spaces. That process can take up to two years depending on the size of the company. So a sale today will lead to small ongoing complaints starting around November of this year, and once full migration go into place, tons of complaints around December and onward.

The best part from experience is the letter they send to customers. The host (or brand at this point) will send out a general maintenance email to customers that will say everyone is being upgraded to new servers (lie), and that they should expect downtime of a few minutes (another lie). Migrating a company that size always leads to days and weeks of downtime, and many cases of lost emails, lost websites, or lost accounts.

Of course there are going to be good legitimate reviews but in the case of web hosting services there is such a huge amount of people posting reviews that are motivated by money in one way or another that it's not easy to find good, accurate and honest reviews. Plus many of the reviews are done by people who try the services out for a month or so and really don't know what the host is really like.

The trick is going to be to find good, accurate and honest reviews that are from relatively recent customers who have been there a while.

Using shared hosting from Hostgator maybe a good choice for new users and it doesn't have any problems with plans from $10+, but consider using it for small sites and less traffic. With Arvixe VPS hosting, then you should stay away because i had bad experience with them.

Ah yes the factor of affiliate programs may have some folks sacrificing their integrity in reviews in exchange for $$$ :(

It's no wonder though. Have you seen what the EIG affiliate programs pay their affiliates? Some of the highest commissions out there for hosting.

Personally I don't want to be that xxxxxxx that told buyers that an EIG hosting company was good and that they should buy it, only to find out I was lying to make some good money.

Very high in comparison to most other hosting programs. Mid double figures to low triple figures, depending on the sale of course. I know some people that make a good income marketing just those.

I guess they need to pay well to get all those first time customers who don't know better.
