Just wondering how people here found the differences between Apache and LiteSpeed Web Server for cPanel hosting?
I am considering the switch to one that better performance and making my clients sites load faster etc.
Any thoughts?

LiteSpeed is faster than Apache. It's also Apache compatible, meaning it's a drop-in replacement. It will make websites load faster, and is much easier to switch to than NGINX.
However, it costs money - and it's based on cores. An alternative is OpenLiteSpeed (also Apache compatible).

A lot of people (including myself) are using mod_lsapi from CloudLinux.
Mod_lsapi is the fastest and most reliable way to serve PHP pages. It is a drop-in replacement for SuPHP, FCGID, RUID2, and ITK. It has a low memory footprint and understands PHP directives from .htaccess files
Try mod_lsapi before switching to LiteSpeed.

Once you make the switch to LiteSpeed is hard to go back, when it comes to CPU and RAM usage its much more efficent than the alternatives. Servers with LS webserver can handle a higher density of customers per server without losing performance.

Lite speed servers are compatible with many control panels and applications. Lite speed servers are faster in comparison to Apache servers. It also increases the PHP performance, has an inbuilt protection system and eliminates downtime.

Litespeed is of course best. But if you are familiar with apache not with litespeed then go with apache. It's also depend on your budget as well.

Apache:

The software was created back in 1995 by a small number of Internet enthusiasts in order to make their own websites. But soon those website tinkerers went from mere beginners to true emperors of modern internet. Constantly growing and developing, the Apache server became one of the most stable and secure servers available today, and since it also has the ability to load in components, it remains one of the most flexible and versatile as well. And the price? It is completely free.

LiteSpeed
Unlike Apache, The Litespeed server is a fairly new piece of software made in 2002 by Litespeed industries Inc. This web server was designed to read Apache configuration files and the software can ultimately be dropped in to replace any Apache server. As its name suggests, Litespeed is a version, but the company claims that a single Litespeed server can handle the same amount of traffic as two Apache servers. The main downside is that it is essentially a commercial product. Though a free version of Litespeed is available, many important features are only available if you purchase the enterprise version, which costs anywhere from $14 $92 per month.
Litespeed Vs Apache

The greatest thing about Litespeed is that the server is really able to handle much more traffic than Apache and it can handle DDOS attacks more efficiently. In one research, an Apache server that had been going under from DDOS attacks was replaced by a Litespeed. While the Apache server crashed due to the attacks, the Litespeed server managed to withstand the attacks and remain its functionality. Also, Litespeed is able to handle configuration files and can support almost all of the popular control panels.

I like using Apache 2.4 with mod_lsapi (mod_lsphp LiteSpeed) from CloudLinux.

Ps, the above is what a lot of provider use and claim they run LiteSpeed which is a bit misleading because they only run a particular part of LiteSpeed and not the full LiteSpeed Web Server. Both allow sites to load fast so either one is good.

Like others said, LiteSpeed is better than apache. However, it costs a bit of money, a better option would be to use Apache and mod_lsapi or Nginx in front of Apache acting like a reverse proxy, this will help your server cope with a lot more traffic.

LiteSpeed is faster and better than apache if you have a money invest and get it.
If not like George said use apache and mod_lsapi or choose a nginx which also is good solution.

Hello

LiteSpeed is awesome! If you test LiteSpeed you will not be able to go back to Apache!

I totally agree with everything they have said here before :)
I also want to say that LiteSpeed is unbelievable but if we add it LSCache is very fast.

I was hosted at Arvixe hosting when they were using the LiteSpeed server. And I have faced most of the server issues in that phase. I think LiteSpeed server can be good but it depends on how the server management people are handling. Apache server on the other hand seems to have less complaint. But both often go down due to people not managing them properly. Based on what I have heard from other friends Apache seems to be their preferred choice.

I like managed Apache server. It will become very fast it it optimized with the right settings. You can also try nginx proxy to server static contents to visitors, load balancing is also good for high traffic websites.
